Those who have joined us in recent years have been spared something on this forum that was all too common for all too long: the dreaded “opus.” Sometimes shrill, sometimes plaintive, often quite lengthy, these were vanity posts explaining why the member was leaving FR. For the life of me I could never figure out why we were treated to these narcissistic rambles.
Well, today I am 20 years on Free Republic, and this is my “no-pus,” because I’m not going anywhere. Thank you to my brothers and sisters in the fight for liberty for keeping company for two decades.
I’ve mellowed over the years and in the course of making over 3,700 replies. I still have two pet peeves, though:
I’ve realized that it is unkind to criticize the grammar of others so I don’t do it anymore. However, one exception is the despicable practice of pluralizing word’s using apostrophe’s. I can’t imagine where this violence against grammar comes from. I still see red and pounce very time I see it.
The second, based on my decades in the law, is the widespread belief that lawsuits, particularly the “class action,” are magic wands that can banish one’s foes. To the contrary they are difficult, expensive, and very time consuming. Add in the many corrupt federal judges, and entertaining the litigation fantasy is just not a productive use of one’s time. Likewise the fantasy, often expressed here, that public officials and judges can or should be jailed for their decisions. Again one’s mental energies directed on that line are just a dead end.
So that’s my airing of grievances. But mostly I want to thank all of my FRiends, and especially Jim. Here’s to another 20 years

Hear hear! I’ll be 17 years next February. It’s been a pleasure going through this American rollercoaster together.

We “old-timers” are thankful we have a conservative oasis in FR. In March I will have 23 years on FR.
Thanks for the support and posts. Been here for at least 6 years myself, and this site has really been an oasis for the past month of media treachery.

How do you find out how long you have been on? I can’t really remember but I think it was a Clinton scandal thing, that got me hooked. I definitely remember the Dan Rather Scandal on FR.
