CNN insists: We are never going back to normal
American Thinker ^ | 10 Oct, 2020 | Eric Utter

A recent cnn.com article about the coronavirus pandemic opened by stating, "[T]ry to take heart in one discomfiting fact: Things are most likely never going 'back to normal.'" (Yes, who doesn't "take heart" at "discomfiting" things? Anybody at CNN have a dictionary?)

The piece mocked "back to normal" as a "well-worn phrase" that people "like to lean on," nothing more than simple-minded "nostalgia for the world of January" when "life more closely resembled our past decades." Perhaps, the author(s) mused, people yearn for things to "get back to normal" as "a bid to show control, to revert to a time when change was not so universally imposed upon us." You think? It is, among other things, a desire to get out from under the heel of a tyrannical government and recoup one's constitutional, God-given rights.

The post suggests that those who hold jobs will continue to work from home, that shaking hands and embracing others will be things of the past, and that the majority of our interactions will be virtual rather than in person. It infers that many jobs are not coming back and that certain relatives might just have to continue to die alone, our goodbyes put on hold forever. It cites Thomas Davenport, the president's distinguished professor of information technology and management at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The professor states: "Politicians who pretend that 'normal' is just around the corner are fooling themselves or their followers, or perhaps both." It went on to cite another Davenport remark: "People who suffer tragedies eventually return to their previous happiness level." Pretty sure that's not always the case, Tommy — especially as regards those who once lived in a free society and have had their freedoms taken from them suddenly and capriciously...and, if this CNN article is correct, permanently.

Well CNN isn’t because I hope CNN ends up on the corporate scrap heap of history.

In red states we are. Here in SW Florida we are very much getting back to normal. Kids have been back to school almost two months now.

Do they require masks in the schools and in national retail chains in Florida?

When I saw how pussified my area was, I knew it was done.
Philly is supposed to be tough.
Cowards are way more prevalent than I had thought.
Young people have no spine.

The only positives I can think of are:
1. Working remote
2. Some hybrid form of schooling for kids (home school/group/online)

Yes. Required in schools by students and staff but they do get mask breaks. DeSantis just dropped the mask requirements for stores, restaurants, etc. leaving it up to the businesses and customers to decide.

I’d also add: “Follow the science.”

What’s most ludicrous about this statement is that it’s usually uttered by people who are totally ignorant about science.

I am waiting for Home Depot to drop the mask requirements.
I cannot wear a mask.
Meanwhile I am saving lots of money.

I agree with this also. We are never going back to normal.

People have fled the cities, like Seattle and those who were renting expensive apartments have bought homes in the suburbs and and are now working from home and the love it. Real estate prices in Whatcom County, WA went up twenty percent over the summer due to people fleeing Seattle.

The problem is that they have brought their Leftwing politics with them. They don’t see that their politics are what caused the urban problems in the first place. But masks and fear of contact is here to stay. Some of the kids have decided that they love on-line school, the shorter days and easier work load.

Agree. I live in a state where the governor has basically said it’s over, get back to work, no masks, etc. But the problem is that, at a political level, the Dem and RINO mayors are clinging to their tyrannical policies...because the population is refusing to go back to a mask-less, free assembly, normal society. And it’s not just the Dems, alas.

It’s like a collective psychosis.

I just did a twitter thread on this, but you’re missing who their audience is.

They don’t care about viewers. NYSlimes doesn’t care about readers.

They can have ZERO viewers or readers. Their audience is Snowflake Karen Marketing Departments that advertise on them. They are 100% subsidized by the DemoKKKrat Party in one way or another . . .

Just as 85% (according to two historians) of the early “newspapers” in America were entirely dependent on DemoKKKrat or Whig support. NONE of them can ever pay for themselves without this kind of largesse. William F. Buckley once told me the reason he did public speaking was only to subsidize National Review, cuz it wouldn’t make it off sales.

I’ve repeatedly asked those posters what made Covid-19 so catastrophic that draconian measures never ordered before, even during the Spanish Flu, so necessary this time. I’ve yet to get a cogent response.

Dismantling CNN would put us back on the path to normalcy though. (wink)

“I’d also add: ‘Follow the science.’ What’s most ludicrous about this statement is that it’s usually uttered by people who are totally ignorant about science.”

It’s more than ludicrous; it’s INFURIATING! That’s always Joe’s STFU statement. It’s like the scientists and medical professionals on the right are rodeo clowns or something. Only the RATs are tuned in to “the science”. PDJT has GOT to start using that phrase — often and loudly. Two can play that game.
