A recent cnn.com article about the coronavirus pandemic opened by stating, "[T]ry to take heart in one discomfiting fact: Things are most likely never going 'back to normal.'" (Yes, who doesn't "take heart" at "discomfiting" things? Anybody at CNN have a dictionary?)
The piece mocked "back to normal" as a "well-worn phrase" that people "like to lean on," nothing more than simple-minded "nostalgia for the world of January" when "life more closely resembled our past decades." Perhaps, the author(s) mused, people yearn for things to "get back to normal" as "a bid to show control, to revert to a time when change was not so universally imposed upon us." You think? It is, among other things, a desire to get out from under the heel of a tyrannical government and recoup one's constitutional, God-given rights.
The post suggests that those who hold jobs will continue to work from home, that shaking hands and embracing others will be things of the past, and that the majority of our interactions will be virtual rather than in person. It infers that many jobs are not coming back and that certain relatives might just have to continue to die alone, our goodbyes put on hold forever. It cites Thomas Davenport, the president's distinguished professor of information technology and management at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The professor states: "Politicians who pretend that 'normal' is just around the corner are fooling themselves or their followers, or perhaps both." It went on to cite another Davenport remark: "People who suffer tragedies eventually return to their previous happiness level." Pretty sure that's not always the case, Tommy — especially as regards those who once lived in a free society and have had their freedoms taken from them suddenly and capriciously...and, if this CNN article is correct, permanently.

My grandmother saved the tinfoil off of chewing gum long after WWII ended. Things will take a generation to revert to old normal.

CNN isn’t going back to normal. We the people are.
Some things will never go back to “normal” because people and their employers have saved a lot of time and money during these lockdowns and have no incentive to go back to the way things were. Online shopping and working from home, for example, are likely to stay for many people — and will become the new “normal.”
And many people will never go back to “normal” because they are fearful and pathetic. They’ll keep living their lives huddled at home because that’s the mind of people they are. In fact; they’ll only get worse when the next crisis appears.
Just imagine if CNN was there during the Black Death!
The problem is they want impose their state of fear on all of us.
If the new normal is never watching CNN, I guess they’re right.
CNN hasn’t been “normal” for some time. Journalistic integrity is a thing of the past.
Does that mean CNN is going to start reporting the truth, since their “normal” is fake? If so, then I’m food with that.
I hope they tank — as the World returns to normal this Fall and Winter... I hope CNN sticks with this and their viewership tanks... I hope they go bankrupt and finally dissolve... the very first time I saw them was back in 1990/91 during the 1st Gulf War — before that, never really paid attention to them... NOW, they are a leftist beast that needs to be starved from ad $$$ and left to die.

I knew this country was doomed back in March and April when I saw how many pathetic people we had right here on Free Republic scolding their fellow conservative Americans for refusing to shut down our lives and cower at home under our beds.

Funny, I read the headline and thought “normal” meant being an objective, fair reporter of actual news. Then again, by those measures, they’ve nevet been quite “normal.”
I think they're right. CNN is so far off the beam they could never find their way back.
It’s starting to become pretty “normal” here in Central FL. But I guess we haven’t gone full-commie as much as some others.

What the left wants is command and control ( raw power ), OF EVERYTHING. They were using the green globalist warming scam to try and slowly achieve this goal. But COVID gave them everything they wanted in one pandemic.
Yes, I am right there with you. I could hardly believe what happened in March, and it has only gotten more absurd, pathetic, and truly frightening since then. This country is gone, and most people don’t even realize it.
