Regarding Gov. Abbott, it looks like his political advisor is a hatchet man not grounded in philosophy. His staff seems to be steering him in a triangulation to position himself for national office. They either think Texas is less conservative or they think Trump is going down the drain or they are dumb @s@@. Whatever the reason, it shows the fact that Abbott is not his own man but a product of his handlers. His handlers are failing him, and the base. Heretofore we have been proud to call him our Gov. but if he is throwing grass roots conservatives under the bus he needs a good spankin’.

Well, since you asked for advice, I agree with your wife that it's not productive. People with slogans on them like that give off a negative vibe that repulses people, rather than attracts them. Stihl makes a piece of cloth that's in a tube shape for wearing when you're cutting wood with a chain saw. It's designed so you can pull it over your nose, make the cut, and pull it down. The weave is very loose, so it doesn't make it difficult to breathe. I put it around my neck, stick it over my nose when I go into someplace that requires one, and pull it back down when I hit the door.
On what to do about it, I used to contribute $50 a month to Abbott's campaign automatically, I cancelled it and sent an email to the campaign, saying I supported him because of his second amendment stance, but no way I could contribute while he was doing this, and that when he dropped the mask order, I would consider starting again. I also sent an email to his official Texas.gov account, expressing my displeasure. Also will probably contact the Lt. Governor (in Texas, actually has more power than the governor) and my local state senator and rep.
It’s all so confusing to us normal people.

I’ve seen some posters on here suggest that Gov. Abbott may not be entirely reliable, but this is the first evidence I’ve seen of it. But it’s pretty bad. He shut the bars down too. There is of course no expectation of when the order might be lifted. Either when nobody has it or everybody has it I suppose. Houston is up to 25% positive according to the testing.

Could be true about Houston, no way to know. However, Houston is not the only city in Texas and neither is Austin. I heard on Rush today that COVID deaths per million in Texas are 91. 91 people out of a million. Even if that were proven to be true, it’s not enough to take away my freedoms for.
In New Jersey and New York it is over 1100 per million..still not enough for any state to require wearing masks that don’t work anyway.
Abbot has lost my vote, hope we can find a replacement.

My church and my grocery store require a mask. My mask is a stretchy headband that covers — just barely — my nose and my mouth. If I had big nose, I don’t think it would work.

I just emailed gov Abbot with my displeasure at his decision and let him know this will cost him not just my vote, but the vote of everyone I know and most likely everyone they know for any further efforts at public office in Texas.
He may not care, but I’m gonna do my part.
