The Science is Conclusive: Masks and Respirators do NOT Prevent Transmission of Viruses
SOTT Signs Of The Times ^ | April 20, 2020 | Dr. Denis G Rancourt, PhD

(excerpt copied from this article)

Conclusion regarding masks that do not work

No RCT study with verified outcome shows a benefit for HCW or community members in households to wearing a mask or respirator. There is no such study. There are no exceptions. Likewise, no study exists that shows a benefit from a broad policy to wear masks in public (more on this below).

Furthermore, if there were any benefit to wearing a mask, because of the blocking power against droplets and aerosol particles, then there should be more benefit from wearing a respirator (N95) compared to a surgical mask, yet several large meta-analyses, and all the RCT, prove that there is no such relative benefit. Masks and respirators do not work.

Precautionary Principle turned on its head with masks

In light of the medical research, therefore, it is difficult to understand why public-health authorities are not consistently adamant about this established scientific result, since the distributed psychological, economic and environmental harm from a broad recommendation to wear masks is significant, not to mention the unknown potential harm from concentration and distribution of pathogens on and from used masks.

Physics and Biology of Viral Respiratory Disease, and why masks do not work

In this case, public authorities would be turning the precautionary principle on its head.

I have serious doubts about cloth face masks being able to stop them.

The masks do not have to stop viruses. They only have to stop the droplets containing the viruses, which are much larger than the viruses.

Comparing SD to NYC is apples to oranges because of population density. They probably don’t have many cases of this in the rural areas of China either.

The same reason Houston as a lot of cases and Lubbock almost none.

It’s why I compare NYC with HK similar cities.
NYC —— Subways. HK -— MTR
NYC —— Filthy HK -— Powerwashes the streets
NYC -— Mayor said, “Hug a Chinese” HK-— closed border with China

What is the relative size of the coronavirus relative to a CO2 molecule. If masks don’t stop a virus from passing, why would they stop a CO2 molecule?

A virus broom mask works even better. Strangers politely steer clear and keep a wide berth.

This place must have low COVID numbers because EVERYONE is wearing a mask. (And some are quite stylish.)
Wrong.
This is in a "hotspot" in Brazil, the country with the highest number of new cases and deaths in the world. (How's that for anecdotal evidence?)

Why don’t you educate yourself and go to the CDC website and the OSHA websites and see exactly how clothe and surgical masks are viewed.

BTW, the CDC tells you that the SARS-CV-2 virus is approximately 0.125 um in size.

The industry standard N95 mask is designed to catch 95% of particles down to 2.5 um in diameter. That is the SMALLEST particles they capture.

The SARS-CV-2 virus is TWENTY TIMES SMALLER than the smallest particle that an N95 Respirator will capture.

That isn’t poppycock, that is fact. If you don’t believe me, look it up. You will find out I am correct. I will even help you. Look here:

Dr. Denis G Rancourt, PhD

"Author Details Denis G. Rancourt
Denis G. Rancourt was a tenured and full professor at the University of Ottawa in Canada. He was trained as a physicist and practiced physics, Earth sciences, and environmental science, areas in which he was funded by a national agency and ran an internationally recognized laboratory. …
https://www.veteranstodayarchives.com/author/rancourt/

He is a physicist, not a life scientist. He has no scientific expertise in the behavior of viruses. Some of the search results that came up when I searched his name lead me to be highly skeptical of anything he might have to say about Covid-19.

There is a lot more to the behavior of respiratory viruses than just the size of the virus. Viruses are packed into tiny droplets, and those will stick to the mask material.

Coming soon! New study shows the majority of masks have more germs than a toilet seat.

Impossible, according to a whole bunch of people, masks can't stop germs much less viruses; masks would absolutely have no germs on it at all, just trapped CO2 gasses...

Quick, let's watch a video by a yoga instructor telling us more about how ineffective masks are.

The foolishness being displayed is getting pretty bad. What would you do if your surgeon decided that wearing masks was putting on a face diaper and wasn't going to do it anymore? He ain't wearing a mask just to prevent you from infecting him during an operation.

You don't want to wear a face diaper, more power to you. But hiding behind outright lies is getting old folks. Stand up and be a man and say you just really don't give a flying fish about the health of others.

This scientific study say face masks can be made effective:

“In summary, we find that the use of cloth masks can potentially provide significant protection against the transmission of particles in the aerosol size range.”

“Prevent transmission” vs “reduce transmission”...

“Reducing” is good.

I don’t believe that any kind of mask will protect me from every possible encounter with the virus which may result in infection.

But I think masks will protect me from many of the situations I might personally encounter, so I wear them when I go out shopping, and carry hand sanitizer. Wearing a mask for an hour or so in certain situations isn’t killing me, and might be helping somewhat.

I compared New York to Hong Kong.
New York has had compulsory masks for months and they still ended up with the highest infection and death rates on the planet.
Your “anecdotal” example from Hong Kong doesn't work.
I used South Dakota because they had no lockdowns, no compulsory masks or social distancing and still ended up better than almost ever where else.
Plus they didn't destroy their economy like New York.
There is zero proof that masks work. They don't.

I try to simplify. If a location requires a mask, it is telling me it’s a dangerous place, so I only go there if it is necessary.

Grocery, yes.

Most everywhere else, no.

I do spend a lot of time outdoors, no mask needed there.

" I have serious doubts about cloth face masks being able to stop them."

You might know that the virus is transported inside the droplets of water that exists with the human breath. You see those droplets on cold days as they show up as a cloud when you exhale. A cotton quilt with batting provides 96 ± 2% (10 nm to 300 nm) and 96.1 ± 0.3% (300 nm to 6 μm) filtration of these droplets. The science on the filtration of various fabrics is done.

How did concern for “the health of others” work out during the rioting, looting and “peaceful demonstrations” which brought out an estimated 2 million Antifa/BLM vermin?
Do you have any posts here condemning those rioters with no face masks?

Who the heck does not wash their mask regularly?

People around here are re-using their masks. A would bet a majority of them. But that's not the worse offense. People constantly touch the front of their masks while out in public. The South Korea study showed a good amount of contaminants accumulate on the inside *and* outside of cloth and surgical masks and whatever cheap-ass version people are using to feel better about themselves. Masks are lowered and raised constantly, with no disinfecting of hands after doing so. People will have their cell phones up against their masks while in stores, assuming they haven't lowered them to talk while shopping. And yeah, none of them clean the phones after using them.

Silly? No, observant. People are misusing masks, and in a big way.
