When the Romans turned Jerusalem into a pagan city, Jews revolted and minted this coin

Archaeologists in Israel have discovered a rare coin minted about 1,900 years ago, when the Jewish people revolted against Roman occupation, the Israel Antiquities Authority announced (IAA) last week.

The bronze coin is so rare, that out of 22,000 coins found in archaeological excavations in the Old City of Jerusalem, just four are from the revolt, known as the Bar Kokhba revolt, Donald Tzvi Ariel, head of the Coin Department at the IAA, said in a statement.

A cluster of grapes and the inscription, "Year Two of the Freedom of Israel," appear on one side of the coin, and on other is a palm tree with the word "Jerusalem," making it the only coin on record from the revolt to bear the name "Jerusalem," the IAA said...

"It is possible that a Roman soldier from the Tenth Legion found the coin during one of the battles across the country and brought it to their camp in Jerusalem as a souvenir," archaeologists at the IAA said in the statement.

These coins usually feature the facade of the Temple, (the Romans destroyed the Second Temple in A.D. 70), as well as symbols associated with the temple, such as trumpets, a lyre, palm branches and amphorae (clay jugs), according to the Jewish Virtual Library.

Coins minted during the first two years of the revolt typically carry inscriptions saying "Redemption of Israel" and "Freedom of Israel," but that changed to a message of hope with the inscription "For the Freedom of Jerusalem" during the third year, when the revolt became more of a defensive guerrilla action, according to the Jewish Virtual Library.

In what was likely an act of defiance, these coins were minted on Roman coins, the IAA said.

Well, except for the whole “Kill ALL Jews and Christians” thing, I suppose it is the purest form of Judaism.

Do people even THINK when they write stuff like this?

Read their book, I have. Then tell me I am just “reacting” to some interweb post.

Learn just how misled the free world is. Do not bother me with your attempts at intellectual shaming, you are not worth my chihuahua’s efforts.

End times my ass, every moment of their existence is their “end time”. Read their book!

I’ve read the plagiarist Quean, the Sirah and slogged through part of the Hadeeth collection of Al Muslim.

The books are bad copies of earlier books. The Mohammedans believe that they are the pure Judaism. They are wrong.

In the event they conquered a hypothetical 3rd temple, they would convert it into a mosque.

Perhaps you misunderstood — Islam is undeniably evil. It is a plagiarism of Jewish scriptures merged with Gnostic beliefs and Arabic polytheism.

The Al-illah or Allah — that means “the god” is the title for Hubal or Sin, a god in the Arabic pantheon who had 3 consorts: Alat, amat and Uzzat - the Satanic verses say that these three are to be revered.

My point in post 19 was what Mohammedans claim to be - “pure Judaism” — they say that the Torah and the Injil (they actually believe that the Bible is one book and not a collection of 73 books and that it is properly called the Injil i.e. “gospel”) were corrupted. This then begs the questions:
1. Al-illah is so weak that his messages keep getting corrupted?
2. what’s to say that Mo’s message wasn’t corrupted?

Anyway, so they claim to be the oldest religion, claim that Abraham, Moses, Isa (the Muslim version of Jesus) were Muslims and they claim different things.

That’s why they kept the Hagia Sophia and converted it to a mosque, that’s why they would have kept a hypothetical 3rd temple and converted it to a mosque.

Their claims have fooled Jews (and Christians) before — Jews in Jerusalem, North Africa and Spain actually welcomed the Arab invaders, thinking they were:
a. closer to Judaism than Christianity
b. would not persecute them like Christians did (and this requires a bigger explanation for another time - but Christians had some blame and so did Jews (and I’m not talking about the nonsensical “god-killers”/blood-libel as I hold that ALL of us - Jews and gentiles are guilty of the crucifixion of Christ due to our sins. Christians and modern Jews (descendents of the Pharisee sect through Rabbi Ben Zakkai) are sister religions and we should not persecute each other.

I think Omar deliberately did not enter any churches during his visit to Jerusalem so that his followers would not try to turn them into mosques.

The period up to the destruction of the Temple by the Romans is called the Second Temple Period. But in the New Testament they refer to Herod the Great's having built the Temple. Did he just restore and improve the one built after the return from the Babylonian captivity?

I think the “illah” in Allah is cognate with the Hebrew El or Elohim, found in the Bible as a word meaning “God.” Arabic and Hebrew are related languages (seen also in “salaam” and “shalom” both meaning “peace”).

Arabic “illah” definitely seems cognate with Hebraic El.

I’m sure you know it, but will just repeat here for others - you are correct that “salaam” and “shalom” both mean peace, but “Islam” is not from “salaam” but means “submit”

The temple that was built by those returning from Babylonia was pretty modest and nothing in comparison to the Solomonic temple.

Herod made it grand

He had something to prove - after all, Herod was the son of Edomites -- as an aside, John Hyrcanus, one of the Maccabean rulers of Judea conquered the Edomites around 100 BC and forcibly converted them to Judaism.

Herod didn't "just" restore and improve - he improved it incredibly, a complete rebuild, akin to the rebuilding of St. Peter's cathedral in the Vatican

I know I'm deviating, but I just want to share how surprised I was when I realized that

Modern-Day Judaism as we know it is descended from the Pharisee sect of 2nd temple Judaism and it arose in the destruction of the 2nd temple in 69 AD when Rabbi Ben Zakkai re-formed the religion away from the temple and priests to synagogues and rabbis (refer "First century Judaism in Crisis" by Neusner)

Christianity is descended from another 2nd temple Judaism sect, the Jesus-movement or the Messianic Judaism (distinct from modern day Messianic Jews who are Pharisee-descended modern Jews who have become Christians)

The modern day Jews are our brothers and it is a sister religion to us - that explains a lot of the early animosity between Christians and modern-day (CE) Jews is around these two rival views -- CE Judaism is in fact 37 years younger than Christianity - since it starts in the Council of Jamnia in 70 AD that settles the Jewish Torah and the CE J decide to not follow the Septuagint as that is used by the Jesus-movement Jews to "prove" their point, while the Jesus-movement Jews take pains to stick away from the term "Jew" due to the bad connotations after the Jewish-Roman wars

All true. The Bar Kochba revolt was crushed and Judaism persecuted by the Emperor Hadrian, who seems to have something of a contingent among Log Cabin Republicans. Hadrian had to be talkied out of evacuating Dacia, but ended the short two or three year occupation of Mesopotamia begun by Trajan. His famous wall in Britain replaced some earlier structures and was begun almost immediately after his mother connived to get him the job. During the six years it was under construction his relationship with the Judeans fluctuated. In 130 AD his teenaged Greek catamite drowned in the Nile, leading Hadrian to start a cult throughout the Empire to worship his dead victim of pedophilia. He probably wasn't in a good mood when Bar Kochba started his uprising. After the Roman victory, old Jerusalem was mostly leveled and renamed Aelia Capitolina.
In the years following the revolt, Hadrian discriminated against all Judeo-Christian sects, but the worst persecution was directed against religious Jews. He made anti-religious decrees forbidding Torah study, Sabbath observance, circumcision, Jewish courts, meeting in synagogues and other ritual practices. Many Jews assimilated and many sages and prominent men were martyred including Rabbi Akiva and the rest of the Asara Harugei Malchut (ten martyrs). This age of persecution lasted throughout the remainder of Hadrian's reign, until 138 C.E.

The chart is not entirely accurate. It is "Reform" Judaism, not "Reformed," and the Samaritans of today are descended not from the Sadducees (sort of the Jewish establishment at the time of Christ) but from the Samaritans of that period, who in turn seem to be descended mostly from the 10 northern tribes (maybe some non-Israelite mixture from people settled there by the Assyrians).

A lot of male Jews whose families have a tradition of having been priests have very similar Y-DNA which suggests a common ancestor around 1300 before our era--in other words, about the time of Aaron.

In 130 CE, Hadrian visited Jerusalem, which was still in ruins from the First Roman-Jewish War of 66-73 CE. He rebuilt the city according to his own designs and renamed it Aelia Capitolina Jupiter Capitolinus after himself and the king of the Roman gods. When he built a temple to Jupiter on the ruins of the Temple of Solomon (the so-called Second Temple, considered sacred by the Jews), the populace rose up under the leadership of Simon bar Kochba (also given as Shimon Bar-Cochba, Bar Kokhbah, Ben-Cozba, Cosiba or Coziba) in what has come to be known as the Bar-Kochba Revolt (132-136 CE). Roman losses in this campaign were enormous but Jewish losses were no less significant. By the time the rebellion was put down, 580,000 Jews had been killed and over 1000 towns and villages destroyed. Hadrian then banished the remaining Jews from the region and renamed it Syria Palaestina after the traditional enemies of the Jewish people, the Philistines. He ordered a public burning of the Torah, executed the Jewish scholars, and prohibited the practice and observance of Judaism.

The Samaritans are not depicted as descending from Sadduccees. The green line goes behind the Sadduccees box not through it.

Samaritans are a first temple sect of Hebraic religion.
