Thought I’d share this. Although at my hospital we are 4 days into elective procedures. All elective procedure patients are required to have the virus nasal swab. Turnaround time is 45 min. So far, in these asymptomatic patients, approximately 11% have been positive. Take it FWIW, but I found it fairly surprising. Not a very hard hit area. Higher than I expected.

Taking into account up to 30% false negative I would guess more like 15% actual.

This is the viral RNA RT-PCR swab. Detecting the virus in one’s nasopharynx. I don’t have exact demographics, but suffice to say mostly older co-morbid patients (colonoscopies, spinal injections, elective heart caths, etc). We are located in fairly affluent zip code and referral base is mostly fairly nearby (not an inner city county hospital). The procedure is cancelled if positive.

This is very surprising! Here in Garland I have been doing antibody testing for 2 weeks now. I have a lot of people coming in every day thinking they have already had Covid-19. I have not had a single surprise result yet and I am using the Abbott labs IgG with a specificity of 99.5%. Lot of disappointed people for sure.
So I have been disappointed as I was hoping to find more people who were immune. It’s really good you are seeing such huge numbers maybe mine will start picking up soon. The only antibody tests we have had positive were people I already treated for Covid-19 previously.
That remark is useless. How many positives? How many negatives? A surprise is a different result from expected. That could be positive or negative.
you can go ask him. he is on texags site and on facebook
btw, he was responding to the DR I posted who was getting surprised by the the no symptom patients coming in for elective surgery
his post makes sense to me

I have actually been cautious on zinc because zinc metalloproteases might be involved in TMPRSS2 upregulation which may be involved in the infection pathway: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5375694/ and https://www.pnas.org/content/117/13/7001 But it’s interesting that it helps with VWF clearance. So, wondering how to balance the two. Is the TMPRSS2 upregulation something to be concerned about with zinc?
If the test gives 30% false negatives, it’s trash, just like the ones that give you positives for other corona viruses as well as CCP-19. May even be the same garbage test. At that end of the spectrum I’d be more interested in the false positives number.
Until someone produces a solid study with a reliable test I’m staying with the stats from SK and DP as the only reliable, comprehensive data we have. If US testing catches up with the spread, maybe we can start using that data. Right now we don’t know how widely it has been spread by those proud FluBro spreaders.
the biochemist on the site says he doesnt trust any of the new antibody tests but if you are going to use one use one recommended by the CDC or EUA or something..I dont remember
You can’t get the flu from a flu shot. Some people have a reaction to the shot.
I guess the point was, a full week ago, the death count was over 60,000
and in one day, it dropped to 37,000
now 48K or so?
