Amid ever-changing models, it's hard to put a finger on just how dangerous the coronavirus is.
We know at this point that COVID-19 the disease caused by the coronavirus has led to more than 85,356 illnesses and more than 1,246 deaths in U.S.
For comparison, the flu has caused an estimated 38 million illnesses, 30,000 hospitalizations and 23,000 deaths this season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
(snip)
When it comes to lives claimed by the opioid epidemic, for example, in 2018, the most recent year available from the CDC, nearly 47,000 died from opioid-related causes. That accounts for the majority of drug overdose deaths in the U.S. numbering above 67,000.

Are there any numbers showing male vs. female, occupation, racial and age in the confirmed cases.
We know that the elderly at risk for death, but what is the other data showing?
I have not seen any breakdown in affected groups.
“Im Retired and even *I* want to go back to work, LOL!”
I’m also retired, but I think you forgot the sarc tag /s
I want to know how many illegal occupiers, (whether they are from south of the border, muslim countries, or chinese), have the virus? Also, how many are carriers?
Hmmm, it seems more brutal than the flu to me.
Bookmarked under Corona
:)
that some people got nothing to live for and nothing to do but see this get very bad. It is what they live for and wait for. You won’t change their opinion. And some of them will be disappointed when it dissipates. It’s very sad but true.
My life is pretty boring but I don’t wish horrors to happen to make it exciting.
But that people do is pretty well documented in psychology
I appreciate the attention given to the opioid epidemic, but comparing it in this instance is flawed.
People have to actively choose to take opioids. It does not get transmitted to unwilling strangers (except by way of crime).
If an addict coughs all over a surface and accidentally touch it, there is ZERO chance I will start craving meth.
Over the last 6 weeks, I was hospitalized twice. I had all the symptoms of COVID-19 the first time except the fever. At that point, my body temp was abnormally low and I was starved for oxygen and gasping for breath. They didn’t test me because I wasn’t in the high risk category.
I was back in 3 weeks later. They told me they were saving the tests for high risk people, but this time I had pneumonia (something they cleared me of the first time).
I’ve had the flu before. Usually a few days of rest, vitamins, and over the counter meds works.
This is still kicking my ass and I’ve had enough steroids and drugs in me, I’m like a walking pharmacy.
Are the death rates doubling as well, or is the mortality rate dropping as more cases are identified? That’s the key. Number of cases is only half the story and the lesser half at that. We could have a million cases, but if the mortality rate is .025% 25,000 death it’s not a big deal. If we have 100K cases and the mortality rate is 2.5% 250,000 that’s an issue.
Our political and governmental response to Coronavirus, and the economic destruction caused, is going to cause far more deaths in society from unemployment, depression, suicide, crime, violence, and increased addiction than any virus ever could.
Since we don't know how many people have contracted the virus, we don't have a "rate". We have a whole number.
You can't have a rate without a denominator.
The problem is we have NO idea what the real denominator is.
How many people have Covid-19 who dont have a clue they have it? How long has it really been spreading?
So now China has definitely identified the fish-monger at a market in Wuhan who started this all in December. Really???
The media will scream something, no matter what he does. That is 95% of all that they do.
Why do you post that graphic knowing there is a distinct difference in tabulation
Corona is based on tested cases
Flu is not
What if corona was extrapolated like the flu is from estimated total cases
You think it would still be 1.5%
Remember when this started folks were loudly proclaiming the corona death rate was 4-12%
Nobody knows anything except given that if only based on tested confirmed cases then the death rate is artificially inflated which is exactly what the left and other statists want
I am very happy with my boring life. I have a ‘48 Plymouth and a ‘56 Studebaker. As boring as my life is I don’t have time to work on them as I have rental property and something always needs fixing.
We MUST get back to work! Even if the worst case had been right, wed be doing less damage to our economy, our social fabric and our kids future. What we are doing now is horrible.
Please, President Trump, open it up and get us back to work!
Thats one of our big problems with this. I believe *nothing* put out by the CCP. I think Trump should start calling this the Xi Jinping Chinese Communist Party Virus.
Link? How did they manage to do massive testing, when testing is just now becoming widely available?
Also, thats a very genetically homogenous population.
True.
It might be good to mention that getting the flu is a passive activity.
--Opioid overdoses BEGIN with ingesting an ILLEGAL substance. It's as active an activity as getting the flu is passive.
--One has to SEEK OUT a drug dealer and s/he is performing an illegal act.
--One has to TRUST that the dealer is selling a pure product. There are NASTY, vicious drug dealers who, on occasion, sell tainted opioids.
--One has to HOPE that the dealer isn't a narc.
--One has to be secretive about using since it is so illegal. It's not like double parking downtown. That's illegal but it is more MEAN than anything else.
