And to protect patients without the virus from patients who do have it.

US military personnel don’t all have PPE, nor do they all have training in how to don and use PPE. Some do - medical and some chemical/biowar defense personnel. Plus many soldiers do have training with chemical warfare gear, but that is not the same as PPE.

wastoute claimed to have had 5 semesters of statistics classes as a pre-med, which is outright ridiculous (how many semesters does it take to get a B.S.? - pun intended). And that he “needed” all 5 just to pass. That right there made me suspect he’s not an M.D.

I’m dead if it moves into my lower respiratory tract after I catch it, so I’m holed up in my house, save for walking around the block for exercise, until the epidemic is over or a month after I’m vaccinated for it.

Sheesh. Look down your nose, much?"
Yeah, miss small popularity contest piranha. I'm one of those rednecks, having been around quite a while and lived in inner cities, suburbs and country--mostly rural. It gets old, seeing nattering harridans gossiping, undermining and stabbing their working class peers in their backs and dragging them down instead of encouraging them to educate themselves and rise to compete in business.
Most recently, many of them been pushing their neighbors to catch an often debilitating disease. Their communities already have enough trouble with drug addiction, promiscuity, broken families and lack of manufacturing jobs for men.
We can do much better.

Walking around the block is good. Can you do any kind of upper body exercise safely enough? I’ve have trouble breathing for years, and upper body exercises have been bringing good results each day after.

Thanks! Very very interesting. Required reading for all, multiply times by whatever factor seems prudent (I’d go with at least 5x to be cautious.)
I’d note that the results were under unusual (lab) conditions: Low humidity with air blowing over the samples to dry them.
So, relative humidity likely plays a role, and dampness (rain wetted clothing) would too. I wonder also, what about sweat?
I suppose this might have ramifications for advanced mask designs, esp. for health care providers.

In general, drying seems to “kill” the virus. Would virus particles stay alive long if in aerosolized (very tiny) droplets in a normal or low humidity room? It seems like those would dry very quickly.
ASs far as materials comparisons, cotton looks like it is all over the place. (The jeans did well.) I’m guessing that might vary with processing and treatments, and that is likely true of other fibers as well. One could and perhaps should run their own crude tests of absorbency.
Question, questions...

Going to the grocery store on a cool, damp rainy day sounds like a bad idea. Well, actually, we sorta knew that!

I think it was 160F or 170 F for 20 min (be careful not to melt or char the elastic in the straps of the masks)

And yes, some. Only a minority, mostly spread out over smaller acreages. The majority of people in rural areas are not farmers. Many who pose as farmers (political class people from large cities) have the few real custom farmers going from place to place to do the work.
In regards to many who are not farmers, these places are human wastelands of vices, crime and social diseases. Much has changed over the past two generations with wrongful social and legal policies implemented throughout. Otherwise, more real farmers would be getting more necessities produced in their own communities.
As for the education, I earned it, and none of it was spoon-fed by overpaid socialists with personal axes to grind.

I have the Quercetin with Bromelain
The doc on the texag site recommends a different type of quercetin to help it absorb. phytosome
I had some zinc picowhatever in my online cart yesterday to buy. didnt check out yet because I was trying to figure out what else I was going to add... and today sold out.

Hmmm. I’ve been running 165F for 20 minutes (basically because that’s the lowest temp I can reliably get my toaster oven to maintain. It is supposed to be able to do 150 deg. F, but I have not figured out how, yet.) It is a big oven and runs the elements at a low power when low (not just adjusting the timing of full on / off cycles, so adverse radiative heat effects seem low.
165 deg. F causes no visible damage, to my eyes, anyway, but I suppose it could affect the media on a microscopic scale, or perhaps decrease its electrostatic action?
That decrease in efficiency is still concerning, as I only have 5 masks (2 at Mom’s and 3 @ home) but, OTOH, I highly doubt I’ll run into high levels of aerosols at the grocery store.

Mine is just straight Quercetin.
My zinc is the picolinate. I happened to order it a month ago.
