He is getting better. No idea what he had, it's been a few weeks and the parents are OK, so I tend to think maybe not CV.
I read somewhere that the phones themselves were free. Ie everybody could have one. They just paid for their minutes/bandwidth/etc.

In singapore, the positives AND their direct contacts were quarantined for 14 days. Not just pinky swear quarantines either.

I have. I had a client a few years ago, a young guy, who started on a political rant. He said something along the lines of how we have declining resources globally, and the solution was to limit care for the sick elderly, thus preserving resources.
I replied, “I understand, since you appear to be a leader and trend setter, we will start with your mom.”
He didn’t call me back after that meeting.
Subway density has changed since I last rode it and then reported back here that there was plenty of space between people.
They’ve started running fewer trains, they had to, so they’re much more crowded now, if that D train is any example.

I firmly believe that the Texas and Florida declarations that travelers from the various hotspots “self quarantine” are just the first salvo towards stricter measures.
This has been the pattern. It gets people used to the idea. They’ve already accepted the concept.
Expect to hear stories of people vandalizing cars with out-of-state license plates.
If the herd has 50% immunity the R0 of the disease is halved. I suppose. With social distancing and prophylactic measures, the R0 can be reduced further. We need to get it well below 1, as close to 0 as possible.
A R0 of .8, for example, means that 500,000 infected infect 400,000 who infect 320,000 in turn and those infect 256,000 and so on.
Since it takes so long to recover you still have the risk of HCS overload.
The contempt for those average Americans who are not sophisticated city folks is tangible.
Why?
Because we know how to and enjoy growing our own food?
Know how to entertain ourselves without going to the theater?
Prefer to talk face to face instead of texting someone with whom we are having dinner while they are sitting across the table from us?
We prefer to bake bread and make homemade soups instead of microwaving everything?
Prefer and like peace and quiet and listening to the birds wake us up instead of the early morning sounds of the trash trucks emptying the dumpsters outside our windows at 5 AM?

Or we’re not financial advisers who are up to our eyeballs in debt?
Because we can leave out doors and cars unlocked during the day and know that everything we have will not disappear when our back is turned?
Trying to figure out what’s so backwards about those rural folks who have neighbors they actually talk to and can trust.
