Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered citizens not to leave their homes starting at midnight local time to combat the spread of COVID-19.
To save India, every citizen of India is being banned from 12 o'clock tonight, on exiting homes, completely, Modi said in a series of tweets Tuesday.
The shutdown will be enforced for the next 21 days, Modi said. Like many other large countries, provinces in India have enacted varying levels of lockdowns and curfews.
As U.S. health officials have also noted, Modi said that the lockdown is an effort to ensure the country's limited medical resources do not run out during the pandemic.
Some people are under the misconception that social distancing is only necessary for sick people. It is not right to think. Social distancing is for every citizen, for every family, for every member of the family, he tweeted.

Complete lock-down except for groceries, medical etc.
The stores are open at certain times and all have home delivery.
India is one of the safest places on the planet!
Only 1 contagious per 2,754,881 healthy persons.
Compare that to New York State...
...which has 1 contagious per 845 healthy.

With a death rate of 1% which seems to be fairly consistent it’s certainly not the black plague either.
but if a lot of people get sick then a lot of young people will be using respirators and a lot of old people will die.
that’s the reason it needs to be slowed down. All the other reasons like people saying it’s 5 to 10% death rate is bs by panickers and faggots.
Excuse my French
That is mentioned nowhere in the report. What information do you have?
I don’t want to be a nitpicker, but what you’re describing is a super incomplete lockdown.
It hardly looks like a “complete” lockdown.
Most of the continent of India generally doesn’t get respiratory diseases spreading.
The exceptions are the northern parts north of Delhi.
India to the south of Delhi is generally hot and humid.
Hot and humid seems to be what stops respiratory viruses.
That MAY explain the lower numbers in India (note: “may” - we don’t have enough data to say that for certain) - but the government there isn’t taking a chance and is trying to stay ahead of the curve.
The death rate is a guess — right now Germany’s is 0.18% and Italy’s is 8%
The number seems to be clearer based on age and pre-existing medical conditions
Over 75 —> 14% chance of dying
Got one of the following? Then your chance of dying is higher:
> Smoker / ex-heavy smoker
> Diabetes / high blood pressure
> Respiratory problems?
> Cancer
You are right about it using a lot of respirators — THAT is what we need to prevent
Just more proof politicians are not the smartest among us.
Cuomu went off on Feds. Is there truth to his projections? If so, FEMA needs to get there
Cuomo said the state has about 3,000 to 4,000 ventilators and has purchased about 7,000 more, but it needs a minimum of 30,000 additional ventilators.
This is a critical and desperate need for ventilators, he said, adding that the state is experimenting with using one ventilator split between two patients. We dont have any other options. Theres no other way for us to get these ventilators. Weve tried everything else.
He called on President Donald Trump to use the Defense Protection Act to secure more medical equipment. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is sending the state 400 ventilators, Cuomo said.
Four hundred ventilators? I need 30,000 ventilators. You want a pat on the back for sending 400 ventilators? Cuomo said, adding that he needs the ventilators in 14 days.
He asked Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar to release the 20,000 ventilators in the U.S. stockpile to New York.
How can you be in a situation where you have New Yorkers possibly dying because they cant get a ventilator, but a federal agency is saying Im going to leave the ventilators in the stockpile, Cuomo said. I mean, have we really come to that point.
yup. It’s just flu. Why worry?
Indians don’t have 21 days of food unless they go outside to grow it. India is still AGRARIAN.
Main reason, Indians do not greet with hand shake. It is namaste to greet anyone.
Haha...I quit handshaking a few years ago...did not know that was THEIR practice
Actually, having spent 20 first years of my life in India, I can posit that your statement does not sound right. My parents were upper middle class and we had electrical gadgets such as fans and irons, but no refrigerator. So most stored food was grains and beans of various kind and spices. Those were purchased in monthly quantities. Even poor people will have a stash of rice and beans to last several days. Dry Spices also last months. But people will have to forego fresh fruits and vegetables unless they can grow them themselves.
I can bet covid-19 is transmitted more with hand shakes than any other means, outside of the family.
