I have no real way to have him come into the house and quarantine from me. There are no options. Live in northern new England.

I have a two car garage attached to the house, but it is cold and drafty.

I thought of borrowing a big tent and putting it in the garage to give it some space, and room.

cannot find a camper to borrow or rent.

cannot afford to purchase one

Ideas would be appreciated.

Depending on how high your risk is keeping safe may not just involve being isolated from him it could also involve disinfecting whatever goods he brings in with him or acquires during his stay. It may mean separating the dishes he uses. If you have a dishwasher his would be washed apart from your. Same goes for the laundry. That also means disinfecting the washing machine before your clothes go in. The bathroom would have to be sanitized after he uses it. Every. Time. If he is doing food prep he needs to wear food service gloves and yeah a mask.

I would also figure out distances and mark them. For example know where to place furniture so you are at least 6 ft apart whenever you might be in the same room. Is it feasible for one of you to be awake while the other sleeps? Sort of living in shifts. That will minimize contact.

We took in a homeless college student (could not get home to other side of the world) and were blessed to be able to.

Appropriate quarantining is not wrong. 14 days in the garage is not inappropriate. Have him stop at walmart and buy a tent, a blow up mattress and a sleeping bag. If you don’t already have a space heater, have him buy one too. You can deliver food and water by placing them on the floor and letting him pick it up. Keep him safe by washing your hands before touching it.

It’s a blessing to be prepared and be able to help your neighbor.

PS. Meanwhile do what you can to boost your immune system. Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc, foods with beta carotene. Cut way back on sugar and alcohol. If possible daily exercise will help too. And get enough sleep.

Agree with the hotel idea.
Do they have to come?

If it is not critical for them to come to your place, I would tell them to stay put where they are.

Couple of years ago I bought an electric oil-filled space heater. No flame, no really dangerously hot surfaces, but heats up an enclosed area quite nicely. Looks a lot like an old-fashioned steam radiator.

At first glance I thought your freeper handle was chickencoop. But maybe that's a place for your guest.

My question was not SHOULD he come, but it was HOW to manage him before the introduction into the house??

Can you set him up in the first room through one entrance? Say, for example, a door to your house leads into a family room with a bathroom. Then he stays in that room for the duration.

Many of us have risk factors. You are smart to be cautious.

See if there are any Airbnb places in your area. They tend to be cheaper than hotels.

Chickensoup :" I did find a motel that might work "

Since you want to see the relative, and a motel might work
it depends on how long they may stay, and whether you are their only family contact in the area.
Many motels will adjust the room rate for a week long reservation, or longer.
AirB&b used to be the best local resource, but in many states hotels and motels opposed the competition, and had B&b declared illegal.
Another choice might be rate comparisons offered through Trivago, or Travel Advisor.
The mere fact that you are health history vulnerable and 'at risk' would seem that the visit should be rescheduled.
