PRC isn't like America with a wide-open telecom sector but it's not NK. There are untold numbers of Westerners working and living there, including bankers etc with corporate email etc. There are lots of smart locals there, too, who have left the confines of PRC and tasted freedom and returned with that bug; they've undoubtedly found a way to breach the govt's controls.

You can believe that 5.7 people for every thousand vanished in the PRC last month, and we're just now finding out about it because of a line graph of telecom users.

Fever is sufficient (probably) but not necessary for a positive diagnosis. So some will slip through with that procedure.

Of note: Here in CA we buy our liquor in the grocery stores. And they remain well stocked.

And you can buy groceries in our liquor stores too. :)

Just came back from post office. People staying apart but not everyone leaving six feet.

People yakking like always on their phones. Laughing loudly. Don’t they realize that spreads stuff as much as coughing does? It upped my usual annoyance with phone addicts by about 100%.

Am going to email recipient to tell them to pick up the package with gloves, spray it with Lysol, and then leave it to age for a few days, per instrux from a freeper.

"Some" is a whole lot better than 'all'... We can save our restaurants with a similar deal - everyone gets the test and if anyone fails the whole group is rejected. Mix that with half the tables are removed for 'space' protection and I'd be willing to eat out.

Life is a trade off...

Time seems elusive these days.

So true.

Yes. Stores, hospitals, restaurants and companies have a vested interest in making this work.

A way around your concern - which is valid - would be to require two checkers 10 feet apart... An additional requirement for restaurants is half their tables need to be removed or left empty and all people in a group would be rejected if one person in the group tests positive. Rejected groups are allowed to order takeout...

I say they head West. Stage in Iran. Boatloads full of troops heading east in the Pacific would be sitting ducks. Unless they were called ships full of masks and respirators. Lol. I would recommend our subs remain submerged. Cant possible become infected then.

The system can only work if we have a 14 day ‘shelter in place’ cool down to cut virus carriers.

After that we’re picking off the stragglers. AND we’re saving our jobs and economy. The alternative is a country wide depression that will make the 30’s look like a walk in the park, higher death rates and medical workers who are stripped of protection ...

We can do this.

My husband started temp screening his employees, with their permission of course because he’s not even sure how legal it is.

He had to send one teen home for “sniffles” last week. No other symptoms, but taking no chances. It’s going to be tough with pollen season in full swing in GA.

It’s only 50% with fever of those who have it. So the one who has it with no fever goes in with his whole group and sits and eats with them for two hours, mixing it up with waitstaff besides.

It gives a false sense of security to those without fever and to those with them.

Not everyone reads FR and is up on the facts.

Updated 3:17 PM; Today 3:08 PM

By Kyle Lawson | klawson@siadvance.com
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Two patients at Richmond University Medical Center have died after testing positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), a spokesman for the hospital said Saturday.

The news comes less than 24 hours after Staten Island University Hospital announced two patient deaths — a man and a woman, both in their 80s, according to sources — due to virus-related illnesses.

Cuomo said New York City saw 1,803 of the new cases, bringing its total to 6,211, but by Saturday afternoon, the city said a total of 7,530 people in New York City had tested positive for COVID-19, including 45 people who died.

Queens has seen 2,077 of those cases; Manhattan has seen 1,791; Brooklyn has seen 2,275; the Bronx has seen 1,005 and Staten Island has seen 375, according to the city.

New York state has more than 8,300 cases and 53 deaths alone; the five boroughs account for about two-thirds of both those totals.

More than 40 people in the city, and 68 across the tri-state, have died. (New Jersey making up 16 of these deaths)

If a bioweapon was involved, prototype or not, the almost certain means of release was that the lowest paid lab minions, upon being ordered to dispose of diseased lab animals, instead secretly sold them to the nearest exotic animals meat market.

There is no direct evidence of this. It's all circumstantial, and the best of that is the behavior of the Chinese government. We'll probably never know.
