Because it was an incredibly entertaining movie with awesome performances and a wildly original and engrossing story. People here have lambasted it for being anti-capitalist but I didn’t see it that way at all. There were plenty of barbs aimed at both families and the poor family hardly comes off as heroic.

I wasn’t intending to insult you, just point out a few things that might have influenced your perception.

But since your response was to write a sarcastic, condescending, nasty reply to my post, I will now proceed to reply in kind:

Drop dead, jerk.

Which is odd since “Parasite” is so riddled with plot holes that it probably qualifies as some sort of cheese.

That’s pretty harsh.

I don’t tell anyone what is wrong with them for not Seeing things my way. You might think about doing that yourself.

I really have a hard time believing that Parasite won. Must be another Russian hacking job!

It’s an interesting film. Well made. But, Best Picture?? Puh-lease.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was MUCH better. I’ve seen it three times, and I like it more every time.

We saw the Short over the weekend. They definitely picked the right one. Hair Love was the ONLY animated short that was worth a crap. All of the Live Action shorts were very good.

“Best Foreign film AND Best Picture? That’s gotta be a first. Question is how can that even happen?”

It happened last in 1999, Best Actor, Best Music and Best Foreign Language Film:

‘Life is Beautiful’ was shown at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, and went on to win the Grand Prix. ... At the 71st Academy Awards, Benigni won Best Actor for his role, with the film winning two more awards for Best Music, Original Dramatic Score and Best Foreign Language Film.

I remember Benigni jumping all around the stage when he had won. :)

Loved the film. I’ve watched it a number of times. Of course since it’s about the EVILS of the Leftist’s hero, Hitler, it would never be made in Hollywood these days. ;)

You expect me to thank you for that nasty, sarcastic screed you wrote? And you’re accusing me of the same.

I call that projection. You would make a good Democrat.

All I did in my original post was politely disagree with your contention that Dean-Charles Chapman was fat. I then noted that a few things about WW1 uniforms that might have affected your perception.

I just searched photos of the actor, and I didn’t see any in which he had what appeared to be a roll around his middle. He has a roundish face, but there are people like that, and many of them aren’t obese.

I have roughly 1,000 books about the Great War in my den. Many of these books detail the lives — and, all too frequently, deaths — of individual officers and enlisted me. There are photos of many of these fighting men — and I guarantee you that in such a large sample you will find all kinds of faces.

Your original post — #2 in this thread, I believe — stated that you hadn’t seen any of the nominated films. Your later posts suggested that you had.

This is rather confusing to me, but I get the impression you know nothing about the Great War and aren’t even a serious commentor, just someone out to provoke an argument.

Certainly, your nasty response to my fact-based original post was excessive. I normally try to be polite to everyone on these threads, but on the rare occasions I get a nasty response, I don’t let it pass.

I have boundaries. No one smarts off to me.

So, drop dead, again.

I did not like this movie. The lead actor was fat which immediately makes me have to suspend disbelief

That’s all

There is nothing wrong with my perception

I have been to Mt
Etc, the Maginot Line, and have actually studied the Great War

I know bad casting when I see it

I don’t need a lecture.

I think you’re a troll just here to provoke an argument.

Any self-styled military history buff who couldn’t appreciate all the good things in “1917” because he didn’t like one of that actors is petty beyond belief. Or maybe just drunk.

I don’t need a lecture from you either. I make a polite and factual post responding to yours, and you write a long, sarcastic and downright nasty rejoinder.

And I’m just supposed to roll over and take it?

I never allow anyone to smart off to me when I make a routine polite post to this forum.

I don’t use foul language here, but there are plenty of harsh words that can get the message across just as well.

So ... drop dead!

Combat veteran, actually. Spent 4 years living in Germany. Toured many battlefields

Band of Brothers makes this movie look like dunkirk, lightweight

Zellweger really deserves it for “Judy.”

Yes, hubby and I watched this and we really enjoyed it.

Loved Ford vs. Ferrari. The Irishman’s main problem was DeNiro, waaayyy too old, even with all of the cinematic cosmetic surgery. Thought Pacino and Pesci were great though.

I like Zellweger, but she is kind of screwed up in the head.

Judy Garland has always interested me, so maybe I’ll see it.

I’ve seen “Band of Brothers” and it was excellent. ]

Finally, we agree on something. Which actually should scare me a bit.

Otherwise, I think you’ve got some really twisted perceptions based on your long, sarcastic, and contemptuous response to my original post. This was complete overkill considering my post in no way mocked your view. I just offered some contrasting facts and opinions in a courteous manner.

But you evidently wanted a fight, and I refuse to be mocked or bullied by anyone. I’ve lived 62 years — including eight in the Army — and this I have learned: If you start giving in to abuse, before long the whole world will be using you as a doormat.

Your response to my original post was totally inappropriate.
And now you’re pretending like you’re the offended party?

That’s projection ... a trait highly characteristic of the political left these days. That’s why I suspect you of being a troll.

Of, by the way, I just recall reading a book about the BEF in the Great War, which mentioned that a lot of boys from the slums of London, Liverpool, Manchester, etc., actually put on weight during training. British Army rations were fairly generous — lots of meat and potatoes — and the recruits often came from seriously deprived backgrounds. Army chow was an improvement over what they had to eat at home. I wish I had the exact book and chapter reference here, but I’m working from memory.

But then, why pay attention to anything I post, when you’re obviously the world’s greatest authority?

Projection, indeed.
