A 104-year-old US Marine Corps veteran wants people to share some love this Valentines Day.
Maj. Bill White, who served in World War II and was injured in the Battle of Iwo Jima, is asking members of the public to send him cards for the Feb. 14 holiday, KTXL reports.
The California native hopes to add the cards to his scrapbooks, where he keeps a lifetimes worth of memories on bookshelves arranged by year.
Ill save every one of them like Ive been saving little things that have come up until right now and theyll be a personal part of my history, he told the station.
White said he began scrapbooking as a way to keep busy after retiring.
His mementos also include his Purple Heart, which he received after surviving Iwo Jima.
The fact that I even survived is something. There werent too many of us, White told KTXL. When I was wounded, I didnt have any choice in the matter. A grenade blow up about 6 inches from me.

LOL! Classic Freeping. ;)
Thanks so much for posting this Diana!
PINGING some folks in The Canteen!
104 year old Marine Vet would like some Valentines!
Let’s do it!
I would imagine it is easy to feel lonesome, with most of the people you grew up with long gone. At least he can make his feelings known to both us the public, and to himself.
I wish him the joys of new friendship.
Thank you.
The Marines were always the branch that recruited the youngest service members, LOL!
My FIL is a Marine and my Nephew (his Grandson) joined the Marines two years ago. You would’ve thought Big John had died and gone to Heaven he was so proud and happy! He’s well into his 80’s now, so I’m glad he got to see at least ONE Grandchild become a Marine. For some reason, while his sons were all toughened Farm Boys, none of them every joined up.
He loves me because even though I’m, ‘Only Army’ he ‘understands’ that it’s ONLY because they weren’t taking women in the Marines back when I served. ;)
People like that are the backbone of America.
The Marines were always the branch that recruited the youngest service members, LOL!
Probably some truth in that observation.
I was waiting for the recruiter the day I turned 17 and about half my platoon at P.I. was 17!
Underage, oversexed teen age killers!!!.
Thanks for the ping, Sis! What a good thing to do!
Nice!
I joined the Army at 17, too. Had my 18th Birthday in Army Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, SC.
Good Times, LOL!
I’ll get my 99 y.o. mother to send him one.
Thanks for posting. Generally - we get a few weeks notice on this one!
I miss that girl some days. She’s not as easy to ‘channel’ as she used to be, Forty-One years later, LOL!
