Study puts the 'Carib' in 'Caribbean,' boosting credibility of Columbus' cannibal claims

Christopher Columbus' accounts of the Caribbean include harrowing descriptions of fierce raiders who abducted women and cannibalized men - stories long dismissed as myths.

But a new study suggests Columbus may have been telling the truth.

Using the equivalent of facial recognition technology, researchers analyzed the skulls of early Caribbean inhabitants, uncovering relationships between people groups and upending longstanding hypotheses about how the islands were first colonized.

One surprising finding was that the Caribs, marauders from South America and rumored cannibals, invaded Jamaica, Hispaniola and the Bahamas, overturning half a century of assumptions that they never made it farther north than Guadeloupe.

"I've spent years trying to prove Columbus wrong when he was right: There were Caribs in the northern Caribbean when he arrived," said William Keegan, Florida Museum of Natural History curator of Caribbean archaeology. "We're going to have to reinterpret everything we thought we knew."

“Columbus may have been telling the truth.”

Never doubted it for a minute.

An easier way to discover Columbus was correct, may have been achieved by simply trying to determine, what possibly would motivate him to create such a lie ?

Does this mean Columbus Day can be re-instated?

It will probably be another 20 years or so before the gay community starts working to get American to accept cannibalism as a ‘lifestyle choice’. They have higher priorities right now.

The Karankawa Indians down on the Texas coast were cannibals. They were finally made extinct in the late 1800’s. They were attacking and eating people as late as the Civil War. Why would anyone think the Indians that met Columbus wouldn’t be cannibals?

None of this changes the fact that Columbus was a criminal who wound up in chains. He also never set foot in what is now the United States (sorry PR and USVI, you don’t count). We should have Henry Hudson Day instead.

Columbus may have been right, but today we’re supposed to believe that Native Americans were all angelic lovers of harmony who were one with nature and never did anything wrong. Then Columbus showed up and opened a portal to Hell, through which a billion white devils emerged.

My hat is off to the scientist for changing his mind based on the evidence.

The thing the “scientific method” overlooks is the passionate commitment that most scientists have to their preconceptions.

You mean the natives were not the peaceful people Liberals say they are? I'm shocked...

Next scientists will say Global warming is a hoax or taxes will hurt the American economy...😋

"Pot-smoking" as well, since Liberals seeking to racially demonize a class of people while sainting others. However, while there are cultural differences, the depravity of man is universal.

Exactly. But the story will go nowhere since it does not advance the "white man bad" narrative.
