Ebola may soon be a "preventable and treatable" disease after a trial of two drugs showed significantly improved survival rates, scientists have said.
Four drugs were trialled on patients in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where there is a major outbreak of the virus.
More than 90% of infected people can survive if treated early with the most effective drugs, the research showed.
The drugs will now be used to treat all patients with the disease in DR Congo, according to health officials.
On Tuesday, two people cured of Ebola using the experimental drugs were released from a treatment centre in Goma, eastern DR Congo, and reunited with their families.
The US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which co-sponsored the trial, said the results are "very good news" for the fight against Ebola.

And also after screaming for a cure they’ll next attack BP for expensive pills/serum for it.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Damn whitey does it again.
Another vaccine to kill off the masses...
This isn’t a vaccine.
The drugs work by attacking the Ebola virus with antibodies.
That technique could be widely used against other diseases.
Also, the article mentions that they now have a developmental Ebola vaccine, which seems to work.
Huge medical advances are occurring. It is going to be far beyond just Ebola.
OK. What is it then? I thought people were vaccinated against diseases. Ebola is a disease, so what is the thing they are giving these people?
Seriously.
Why would you even respond.
You have more patience than me.
Because Nully and I are Friends and friends. OK? I was asking in all seriousness. I believe Nully knows me well enough that he understands that.

‘Face
Does this not thwart the will of God? /s
How would I know, Sparky? ;o])
I talk to God and He talks back, but some things He keeps to Himself.
At $170,000 a dose no doubt.
American racists deeply saddened.
Now, to convince Africans that the white devils’ medicine isn’t going to kill them faster than eating bush meat or having unprotected sex or not washing their hands.
Still no cure for the common cold or cancer.
And you’re paying for it.
But there won’t be enough to go around when you or your family catches Ebola on a plane or from some sick food service person.
...annnnd Ebola mutates.
"Ebola may soon be a "preventable and treatable" disease after a trial of two drugs

Reality says that half of those who are carriers, don't even know they have the disease.
The key to the problem is early treatment (!)
and the next issue is how fast the vaccine can be produced,
and the last issue is how much does the dosage/ treatment cost ?
Thanks, TIK!
My only question is, do the drugs kill off the remnant of the virus that shows up in ocular fluid and semen for up to 18 months after the sickness has passed?
