Uncovering the mechanism by which calcium deposits accumulate on the walls of arteries
could help develop new treatments for everything from heart disease to dementia
(Credit: Melinda Duer)

A landmark study, led by a team of scientists from King's College London and the University of Cambridge, has described the mechanism responsible for the hardening of arteries. The research also points to a common antibiotic as a potential new treatment to prevent this condition.

LOL...

Again... herbs are created in the service of Man.

I’m coming from a Judeo Christian position, not an atheistic communistic totalitarian position...

Since when is criticizing Big Medicine/Big Pharma/Obamacare a problem? It’s an abomination that kills.

P.S. we need organic probiotics in our bodies, not more antibiotics from the insane clowns of Big Medicine/Big Pharma

“The only known cure for prevention of heart attack, stroke and artery hardening is ... running.”

Yep! No one has ever heard of a runner having a heart attack.

Well....apart from Jim Fixx (https://onceuponaparadigm.wordpress.com/2010/12/27/what-really-killed-fitness-god-jim-fixx-i-just-learned/) and maybe a neighbor or two...

I like running. I plan to get a run in today in 100 degree heat. But there are lots of things that affect hearts.

“If peoples arteries are so hard why do we need Viagra?”

It is conservative talk radio. The local one runs ads for ED. Maybe 75% of their ads...ED. I concluded listening to too much talk radio causes ED. Rather than take Viagra, I gave up talk radio?

Did it work? Don’t know. Between running and weight lifting, I’m too tired to find out!

Autophagy

Even in a healthy human body, cells are constantly becoming damaged as a normal part of metabolic processes. However, as we age, experience stress, and deal with more and more free radical damage, our cells become damaged at an increased rate.

This is where autophagy comes in: It helps to clear damaged cells from the body, including senescent cells that serve no functional purpose but still linger inside tissues and organs. The reason it’s so important to remove senescent and damaged cells is because they can trigger inflammatory pathways and contribute to various diseases.

Research suggests that some of the most important autophagy benefits include:

Side Note: Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2018 for his work on autophagy.

He had congenital heart disease. That does not negate his work on running.

Everyone knows that but you.

(Remembering all of the admonitions to NEVER over-use antibiotics)... How many strains of how many germs will now become even more drug-resistant?

Did it last night (skipped dinner)...felt terrific this morning.

I started Keto a few weeks ago, it really is amazing that although I am eating relatively little, I am rarely hungry, I almost have to remember to eat.

I hope to eventually incorporate IF into it.

Beware of the Pharmo- government complex

Good health this primarily determined by two things

1- diet.

2- excercise

With just these two items you can pretty much cover your own health and I would be very very wary about ever taking any little pill that the government - medical complex tells you to take other than maybe an aspirin

Why ? Unintended consequences

Paranoia.

Sorry, that’s what it is, and it’s fed and feeds the communist juggernaut.

Tree bark is not as effective or safe as aspirin. It’s derived from the same thing, but it’s more concentrated and pure.

Yes, God gave you this. Doesn’t mean you MUST use it in that form.

Do you also simply pull plants to eat from the ground by each hand one at a time, or do you harvest them with better, more efficient means? Or is that too impure for you because God didn’t set a harvester in the field?
