There are thousands of people who have made the world a better place to live. Many died before they were old and some would might be great to have around for a lot longer.
Which three historic people do you wish could have lived another 30 years?
Thomas Edison? Rod Sterling? Shakespeare? John Paul II? You get the point.
Frederick III - liberal (in the classical sense) minded father of Wilhelm II (Infamous Kaiser Bill) might have headed off the rivalry between the German & British Empires. (Married to Victoria’s oldest daughter!) If so WWI might have ended up as just another “damn fool thing in the Balkans”. The 20th century would have been very different!
EXACTLY what I was thinking!
ML/NJ
Pat Tillman and every other young man who died fighting for this country but didn’t live to see the fruits of their labor.
Pope Pius XII
Archduke Ferdinand
Henry VII (England)
Honorable Mention:
Benigno Aquino Jr.
That makes me wonder. How would the Soviets punish Hitler if they captured him alive.
Agreed with Alexander II. You wonder if had he lived even just another 15 more years, Russia might have likely been that very different place by the early 20th century. He would have outlived his son who brought in all sorts of reactionary measures after he was murdered. And you also wonder if he and the things he was in the process of doing at the time of his assassination would have been more of that sort of influence on his grandson (Nicholas II).
Thomas J.Jackson
Bob Marley
Glenn Miller
Jefferson, Edison, Einstein.
Andrew Breitbart
Art Bell
Robert Johnson (Blooze)
Laura Ashley
Patton wouldn’t have wanted another thirty years.
There were no more major land wars and he had done his thing.
What did he have to look forward to?
I did see your post, shortly after I posted my own list.
I’ve always wondered why our greatest composers rarely enjoyed long lives.
Conversely, conductors seem to go on forever.
I view Beethoven as the greatest artist, of any genre, in human history. I cannot imagine what a 10th or 11th symphony would have been like.
Revised list:
Bob Marley
Andrew Breitbart
Buddy Holly
Honorable mention:
Amy Winehouse, Bon Scott
Bruce Lee. Another excellent choice.
No one. A longer life would disturb the time space continuum and as Star Trek explained that usually isnt good.
Definitely Seth Rich.
My father
Karen Carpenter
Antonin Scalia, Andrew Breitbart, and John Wayne.
Frankly, I don't think the world can survive without me.
P.S. - sorry about taking 60 years away from two other important people.
