Subject: Travel pool 1. Preset
Good morning from in the Imperial Palace where we are waiting for the arrival of President Trump and First Lady Melania for the official welcome ceremony with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako.
Travel pool is standing on outdoor shaded risers overlooking a vast brick-covered courtyard. Red carpets are stretched across in various angles.
Beside us are two flagpoles with American and Japanese flags.
We are beside a long building with open shaded and a green pagoda roof. This appears to be the 1960s era reception hall, known as Chowaden, the largest structure in the main palace complex. The spacious grounds here are lush and green, with many pine trees and pagoda buildings. We crossed over a moat and through a gate to enter the grounds. President Trump is traveling separately with supplemental pool.
A group of several dozen school children in white tops, Black pants and skirts and bright yellow hats have just arrived. They are waving American and Japanese flags.
A Japanese honor guard is now coming in carrying flags, guns, tubas and beating drums. They are wearing white pants and blue uniform tops with gold braids and red trim. They are wearing white military cover.

Subject: Supplemental pool report #1: Rolling to meet the emperor
Tokyo, Japan
Good morning from beautiful Japan where its 78 degrees and sunny.
This is a pool report that will cover the five minute drive from the Palace Hotel to the Imperial Palace. There, POTUS and FLOTUS will participate in a state call and welcome ceremony with Naruhito, the new Japanese emperor, and Masako, the empress. POTUS will be the first visiting leader to meet with them.
So here we go: The motorcade left the hotel at 9:17 am JST/ 8:17 pm ET.
Your pooler did not get a glimpse of POTUS and FLOTUS departing the hotel, just the Beast leaving, but things in the motorcade seem to be going well so far.
Subject: Supplemental pool report #2: Imperial Palace arrival
Tokyo, Japan
Well, we made it.
POTUS motorcade arrived at the Imperial Palace at 9:23 am. The drive down the street featured hundreds of camera-toting locals. Handing off to the travel pool.
Subject: Travel pool 2. Welcome ceremony
Trump walked out of the beast at 923 am in a dark suit and red tie. Melania wore a white dress.
They were escorted on the red carpet by emperor Naruhito, in blue tie and dark suit and his wife empress Masuako who wore a cream dress and matching hat.
They stood as a bugle played and then the band played the American national anthem and the Japanese anthem, Kimigayo. Trump and Melania put hands on hearts for the US anthem. As more music played, Trump Wales the red carpet, standing alone on one platform and then walked a loop to greet the band and school children who waved flags.
He returned to the stand alone platform and bowed slightly on his way.
It was breezy and the birds chirped. But the heat forced three children and one adult to leave their positions and sit down with help from others.
After more music, the group walked together, Trump beside the emperor and Melania with the empress.
The leaders walked toward other dignitaries, including PM Abe who was not in the main procession but in attendance. The leaders walked the rope line and shook hands.
Technical difficulties but trump Wales should be walked. And the number of children be taken away for heat has climbed. The music is still playing.
The music is still playing. Annie Karni sending photos.
WW2 was a hell of a way to make friends...
But we sure made some good ones!
Subject: Supplemental Pool Report #3: POTUS and FLOTUS greet the emperor and empress
At 9:18 am local time Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako walked just outside the doors of the Imperial Palace for an official military greeting. They presented themselves with a slight bow and a nod before returning indoors.
Emperor Naruhito wore a suit and his wife wore a cream suit and hat with a cream ribbon around it.
At 9:23 am the president and first lady arrived in the motorcade, which pulled up to the door and let them off in front of the emperor and empress.
Melania Trump wore a white dress with a flower pattern down her left side and red pumps.
As he approached, POTUS mouthed the words, “How are you? Thank you very much.
The group greeted one another with handshakes.
FLOTUS told the empress, “Nice to meet you.”
The president spoke to the emperor in hushed tones. No audio recording or phone photos were allowed but he appeared to say: Congratulations, it’s a tremendous thing. Something they are talking about all over the world.
He said to the emporor, “Please, thank you,” gesturing in the direction of the door.
He put his hand on the small of Melania’s back and gently signaled it was time to enter.
The men went first, followed by the women.
After thia pool left, he participated in a welcome ceremony covered by the regular travel pool.

Subject: Supplemental Travel Pool report #4: State call
After the welcome ceremony, which was open press and handled by the protective travel pool, the president and first lady made a state call on the emperor and empress.
We did not have an editorial presence in the room, although a pool cam was present. Imperial staff refused to allow a journalistic presence, aside from the pool camera I mentioned.
Ive reached out to the person operating the pool cam and will provide color from inside the room, if possible. A gift exchange also took place. Ive asked the White House for a list of the gifts that were given and will provide that information, when it is available.
The supplemental travel pool went to a hold facility during the welcome ceremony. Were back at the Imperial Palace doors awaiting POUTSs departure.

Sounds beautiful!
And, sounds like a different pooler than the snarky one, from earlier. :-)
It really is amazing when you stop and think about it :)
Subject: Supplemental Travel Pool #5:; POTUS and FLOTUS depart for Asakaka Place
At 9:15 am local time, the president and first lady departed the Imperial Palace en route to Asakaka Place, where President Trump has a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and FLOTUS has a separate program of events that will be covered by a separate FLOTUS pooler.
POTUS and FLOTUS came into view just inside the glass enclosed waiting area at 9:13 am. The president was seen speaking to Empress Masako while the first lady spoke to Emperor Naruhito.
Pooler couldnt make out any of their remarks, and audio and cell phone photos were explicitly disallowed. The president helped the first lady into the presidential limo and walked around the back to the right side to enter it himself.
They waved to the imperial family from inside the limo. The president looked at American press and waved. Pool waved back. The president waved again. First lady Melania Trump also waved at press.
Stars and Stripes Forever played the long motorcade out. The emperor and empress remained outside until the entire motorcade had departed. They continued to nod as it pulled out.
At the end, the emperor and empress gave a full bow to cameras on an opposing platform. They turned and nodded in the direction of the supplemental press pool, then looked at one another and giggled once it was over. It was their first Imperial Palace visit with a head of state for Emperor Naruhito, who took the throne on May 1.
While the supplemental pool was waiting for the president and first lady to leave the Imperial Palace, National Security Advisor John Bolton, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and FLOTUS spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham were seen inside a waiting area inside the building.
Roughly 10 minutes before the president exited the Imperial Palace, at 9:04 am, NSCs Matt Pottinger, White House social media director Dan Scavino, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, senior advisor Stephen Miller, Grisham, Lighthizer, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and Bolton walked out. Mulvaney and Bolton were conversing with each other.
Apologies for the length of time it took to send the supplemental pool reports, we were immediately moved to a holding facility that took several minutes to walk to. I appreciate your patience and kindness today.
Subject: Supplemental Travel Pool Report #6: color from the state call
The state call was held in an Imperial Palace room with no editorial presence. Pooler watched a video taken on the pool cam that included audio after the fact. Audio cannot be played back publicly. But heres what I heard and saw:
The state call was held in a beige room covered in large and medium-sized tan circles.
President Trump was seen laughing and talking with Emperor Naruhito as he entered the room.
The emperor and empress speak English they attended Oxford and conversed with POTUS and FLOTUS earlier in English. They appeared to speak to them in Japanese through translators inside the official state call.
They made inaudible small talk for 2 minutes before the pool camera was removed. It was after the pool cam was out of the room that the gift exchange took place. Still waiting for White House confirmation on what the gifts were. That will be your last supplemental pool report until tonights state dinner.
Subject: Travel pool #3. Leaving one palace for another.
At 1015 am, the motorcade began rolling from the Imperial Palace toward Akasaka Palace for meetings with PM Abe.
Subject: Travel pool 4 arrival
Motorcade pulled into Akasaka Palace gates at 1028 am. This is the state guest house. We are now rolling on the brick road toward a large white French style building. Us and Japanese flags are flying from the balcony
