There's a skunk under my deck and I'm not sure how to deal with it.
Supposed to work on cats, too. Wouldn’t make the deck very useable. People hate the smell, too.
I would invite Alexandria Whatsherteeth to come to your house and talk to the skunk.
The skunk would realize that it is in the presence of The Queen of the Skunks and come out from under the deck to honor her.
Then, after listening to The Skunk Queen for a few minutes, it would run off screaming into the woods.
When you trap it in the havaheart, put an old blanket over the trap, put the trap in the car and drive to the liberal part of town. The blanket keeps the skunk calm. If the shunk can’t lift its tail, it can’t spray.
You need a long stick and string on the trap’s door so when you let the critter out, it will simply wander away. I have done this plenty of times and nothing ends up smelling. Of course, there may be babies by now.
Peanuts work for bait. Buy a big bag so you have plenty left over to eat on your skunk free deck.
Havahart trap.
Give swimming lesson by submerging trap completely under water for 5-10 minutes.
I havent had a single one learn to swim yet, sadly.
No scent release.
really? Skunks get to be picky about odors! who knew.
Catch it in a “skunk-proof” trap using smelly bait. then cover the trap with a big plastic container (big rectangular one from Home Depot works). gas it with a smoke bomb or two. i used to release them live but no more - they dug too many holes under my fence. repeat as necessary until you find no more new holes.
Yell, I have the goods on Trump and Putin and the skunks will follow you as you run. Be careful because there may be hundreds of them in your neighborhood.

“Be wise....Call animal control.”
I tried that first. They sent a young (18?) woman over with no protective equipment and apparently no training. She ended up getting sprayed and got an eye infection. Caught another one a few days later and they said it had to be in a skunk proof trap. (Somehow the skunk got out of my first trap). Bought a skunk proof trap and caught another one. City had changed their policy and then required it be ONE OF THEIR traps ($75 deposit, 15 mile drive to pick it up and must return the trap in a week or two). Worthless excuse for “animal control”. Maybe after some kid gets rabies they will do something.
Find an old farmer. He'll know what to do.
Don’t hurt him! Just let him be and he’ll trot off sooner or later.
Well, it won’t be too cute when it kills your dog like it did my old girlfriend’s. Rabies is not a pretty sight.
Skunk rabies are the worst variety and skunks are the highest percent carrier on average. They get bit a lot but not killed because of their stink.
They always carry a bit of that stink around.
Spread bleach around. Pool shock would work too.
You could also try a Bird-X Yard Guard Pest Repeller.
It makes an annoying noise.
Agreed.
when taking them far away- make sure you paint them so you know if same is coming back or just some new one is moving in
When I first trapped it, I had to approach with a blanket then draped it over the trap.
There is no way I would have approached the trap with a .22 to shoot it. The critter would have nailed me before I even got gun to the cage to shoot it......
The best advice I've gotten so far is to let it be since it probably already has babies.......
Trying that right now. I have an old shirt draped over the hole with a pan of ammonia in front of it. If the skunk leaves the deck, the t-shirt will reflect it. If the skunk re-enters at the end of the night, the t-shirt should be pulled back into the hole........
If it's pulled back in, that would likely indicate the skunk is more concerned about a family underneath the deck than the pan of ammonia......
If that's the case, there's nothing I can do about the skunk than let it raise the kits then move on........
"Have a heart" live traps......I've caught many possum and a couple of coons........
As for the skunk, once in the trap, you have to approach it with a blanket or something to throw over it so that it doesn't see you as a threat and try to spray you.
You could register it to vote, as a democrat. No voter I.D. needed.
