OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma LP is exploring filing for bankruptcy to address potentially significant liabilities from roughly 2,000 lawsuits alleging the drugmaker contributed to the deadly opioid crisis sweeping the United States, people familiar with the matter said on Monday.

The potential move shows how Purdue and its wealthy owners, the Sackler family, are under pressure to respond to mounting litigation accusing the company of misleading doctors and patients about risks associated with prolonged use of its prescription opioids.

“They sold it as not addictive...”

Nonsense.

It's been known to be addictive for YEARS. Limbaugh was arrested in 2006. We knew before THEN. This is the Dems propaganda arm pushing a narrative.

I can’t remember at what age we were taught in school about the history of opiate use in the far East and the difficulties from addiction that it caused there. I think it was around the 7th grade, and this was over 50 years ago. This is not to mention the multiple episodes of Dragnet, Emergency and other movies and TV shows, and popular songs, books, and magazines about drugs and their dangers. Not to mention that many of us have known friends and family that provided us with real life examples.

Trying to equate a legitimate drug company providing doctors with tools to help sick people with pain management is nonsense. This is especially true for those with terminal diseases. Part of the problem is that many people in our society have no tolerance for any amount of discomfort, the other component are people who will do anything to get a drug induced thrill. But by the time I was 12 years old I knew that many illegal and prescription drugs were addictive. I am surprised that people here are trying to pull the victim card on this one.

“Guess you never had a serious toothache on a Saturday night.”

Hope the wanker someday is in such horrible pain that he tries to break into a pharmacy to get his hands on something that is not there.

These companies that have developed wonder drugs that have eased the pain of millions should be eternally thanked not tormented.

Wanker in question is same type who object to morphine use on the battlefield for fear of addiction.

Purdue paid for cooked-up studies that claimed their formulations and dosing schedules limited the potential for addiction. These studies were then used to promote sales. Internal memoranda and emails though show that Purdue executives had a strategy to boost sales by slyly encouraging addiction — with tragic consequences.

Oxy was specifically marketed as nonaddictive.

Exactly! We learned about opium dens in history.

This is Democrat propaganda hiding the opioids coming across the border.

Meet the original billionaire inventer of opiods, the SACKLER FAMILY..!

You do realize that drugs and potions based on opium have been around for around 10,000 years? If not you are an idiot, and if you do you forgot the sarcasm tag.

The Daily Mail the publication you posted a screen save of posted this article in 2015:

This is the kind of thing that makes people consider socialism. Those at pharmaceutical companies responsible for the decisions that hooked and killed people should be tried for participating in their slaughter. Instead, they could keep their fortunes and their victims are six feet under. How about pols giving any donations from them to the victims?

I'm a conservative, pro-Constitution, pro states rights Republican, not a Fascist. I'm sick of corporate greed.

“The Sackler’s trying to protect their fortune earned as the greatest drug pushers in human history. “

Swell. Just take a couple aspirin next time you get third degree burns on half your body.

Too bad they didn’t decide to kill all those people with vaccines. From a liability standpoint they’d be 100% off the hook.

“After HOOKING people, you probably won’t believe that they were also recently granted a patent for a drug to get people UN-hooked, would you..?”

Hey, I’ll deal with my pain and you deal with yours. I’d gladly risk a temporary, manageble and recovrable addiction in exchange for relief from horrible intractable pain.

I think the anti-opioid ghouls of the world get off on other people’s suffering. Next thing you know they’ll be going after novacaine in the dental office.

And also 100% besides the point that Perdue knowingly LIED in their first decade of marketing push. They’re not being sued over fentanyl, they’re being sued for telling doctors they had cracked the code and managed to make a non-addictive opioid.
