welcome to a world of 'social equity' you kids are all crazy about. No limos for you. Now get on the bus and be quick about it, comrades.

They did the same thing here. It was a huge impact on my buddie who owns a limo company. The prom was his business’ equivalent of other stores Christmas.

I am sure that the kids who couldn’t hire a limo they wanted will immediately convert to communism. (It must be loads of fun dictating to other people how they can spend their money.)

"Schools Superintendent Hugh Beattie says it’s a matter of safety and equity for all students."

Wow. I wonder if the Superintendent will ride the bus and pay the fee.

I don't mind this. Let the students and their parents arrange their own prom instead of settling for what the school is offering.

Public education is institutionalized mediocrity. We should encourage schools to demonstrate this loudly and clearly ... because that's the only way some people will ever figure it out.

prom attendees must take school-provided and chaperoned coach buses to and from the venue in June.

There is a good use of tax-payer funds!

It is vital to the student’s education that no one feels superior or inferior to some one else.

I would encourage the kids to take a limo to and from the bus depot.

I wonder how the school would react, if the middle class white kids boycotted the school prom in favor of a private party the same night, which was invitation only.

Wait until they ban tuxedos & prom gowns, saying they are inherently unequal in quality and style. They will be issued prom uniforms and everyone will have an equally good time.

Pehaps they can load all of the kids onto box cars, and the theme of the prom can be, “Arbeit mach Frei”.

Also, the girls should forgo the gowns and dress in appropriately dowdy pant suits.

The school is correct about this. It is for the safety of the students because limos are not safe vehicles.

Last year there was a limo accident in Upstate NY. I don’t recall how many were killed.

Turns out limos don’t have brake strength as normal cars do. To make a limo, a car is cut in two, the middle section is inserted and the brake lines connected. Limos are not safe.

Show up with a date who is up for the confrontation and a camera crew. Film every minute of any obstruction by the school system. Then send them an autographed copy of “Carrie” and tell them it could be worse.

matter of safety and equity...

More about the latter than the former. Socialism and radical egalitarianism are hot these days. It gets harder and harder to be optimistic about the country’s future.

If they really want to end prom they should make it free and mandatory.

Wanaque, New Jersey as per wiki

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 11,116 people, 4,018 households, and 3,026 families residing in the borough.

The racial makeup of the borough was 87.48% (9,724) White,
3.07% (341) Black or African American,
0.40% (45) Native American,
4.65% (517) Asian,
0.01% (1) Pacific Islander,
2.25% (250) from other races, and
2.14% (238) from two or more races.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.67% (1,075) of the population.

As of March 23, 2011, there were a total of 7,085 registered voters in Wanaque, of which
1,646 (23.2% vs. 31.0% countywide) were registered as Democrats,
2,191 (30.9% vs. 18.7%) were registered as Republicans and
3,243 (45.8% vs. 50.3%) were registered as Unaffiliated.

The Wanaque Borough Schools serves students in public school for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. As of the 2013-14 school year, the district’s two schools had an enrollment of 915 students and 93.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.8:1.

White town in Northern New Jersey.

School enrollment is less than 10% of population which is lower than a typical suburban school system. I suspect a lot kids go to private schools.

I seriously doubt this has anything to do with equity or equility or any of that crap. I mean limos? Really? What’s so special about that? Limousines and cruises are two things that back in the day used to be considered for the well off, but now are the province of the trashy and low class.

Luxury cars? Like Mercedes, Rolls, Jaguars? Some parents drive those, does this mean that students can’t drive their own family cars?
