(AP) Nairobi, Nigeria -- Prince Alab Swalahari was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his palace in Nairobi on Tuesday. A note next to his body stated that he was despondent that no one would accept his attempt to give away his vast riches.
His brother explained, "Alab had converted to Christianity quite some time ago. All he was trying to do was live a Christ-like life! Christ commands us to give our money to the poor. He tried for over 15 years, sending people emails to give away his money, but all he got back was mockery and hate. I guess it finally became too much for him."
Swalahari had recently been the target of a United States-initiated FBI investigation, and Interpol was scheduled to interview him a few days before his suicide.
Said his mother, "I am so incredibly sad. My son! All he was trying to do was give away his money, and the world would not believe him! Why are people so cruel?"
The fortune Swalahari was attempting to give away totaled more than 46 billion Naira, which is approximately 127 million dollars in United States currency. His lawyer remarked, "Obviously there would be some fees for transfer of this large amount of money, but when we asked for the few thousand dollars to make the transfer happen, not one person was willing to do it..... and several dozen people even contacted the authorities!"
Funeral arrangements will be held at Kenyatta Funeral Parlour, 128 Thiika Hwy South, this coming Wednesday.

Yes, may the good Prince rest in peace. I fondly remember his weekly e-mail asking me to send him my bank account number and routing number so he could deposit a million to my account. This is so sad. If only you had acted, and accepted his money, Prince Salawari would be alive today.

My 80 year old father fell for that crap if you can believe it, gave away around $200K before we found out. How did we find out? He said he was flying to Ghana about a gold deal. They scammed him directly from Facebook so we’re wondering if FB can be sued

Why does the Nigerian prince have a palace (and now a grave) in Kenya?

Why does the Nigerian prince have a palace (and now a grave) in Kenya? It doesn't take too much bribery to relocate and get a dual citizenship.
(that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

In fact, Vlad the geography nerd son says that Nigeria and Kenya are on opposite sides of Africa. (I should have known this without asking, but at least I knew they aren’t contiguous ...)

It would be funny if it turned out Nigeria and Kenya are at war with one another, but I don't think they are, and Vlad wouldn't know unless it was in the Wall Street Journal, which he reads religiously.

I’M HERE!!!! ME!!! ME!!!
He knocked on the wrong doors!!
.... Interpol was scheduled to interview him a few days before his suicide....
That might have had something to do with it too :)
The only time I’ve even seen CLOSE to money like that in american 20s was when I washed the carpets of a gangster on staten island.
It was circa 1984 and there vending machines and juke boxes all over the basement too.
Some big dude was doing the count and he didn’t care at all that we saw.
