A federal judge says “even a blind person” can see that special counsel Robert Mueller is prosecuting Paul Manafort as a way to acquire evidence against his “true target,” President Trump.

U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III made the comment in an opinion released this week that nonetheless sided with Mr. Mueller and against Mr. Trump’s former campaign manager. He rejected Mr. Manafort’s argument that the Mueller-brought tax-evasion indictment exceeded the special counsel’s authority and should be dismissed.

Judge Ellis, sitting in the Eastern District of Virginia, expressed dismay at the special counsel system and at Mr. Mueller in particular.

“Given the investigation’s focus on President Trump’s campaign, even a blind person can see that the true target of the Special Counsel’s investigation is President Trump, not defendant, and that defendant’s prosecution is part of that larger plan,” he wrote. “Specifically, the charges against defendant are intended to induce defendant to cooperate with the Special Counsel by providing evidence against the President or other members of the campaign. Although these kinds of high-pressure prosecutorial tactics are neither uncommon nor illegal, they are distasteful.”

NYPD has a full copy of what was on the laptop from the first and they were ready to rumble on it but got pulled back with some wrangling with the Alphabet agencies. So even if the laptop is in the AA folks hands now there is a full copy in the right hands that is being held and will be used as needed at the right time

I’ve read that too. I also read that sealed indictments do not have to be included in the PACER database. I am not asserting that they are all related to the storm or are all comprised of grand jury indictments - just tracking for now what some say is elevated activity.

I’m an anon having gone full InfinityChan in 2015-2016. Although I don’t really post that much in either place. I started coming back in the runup to the election when I saw how many freepers weren’t stuck in NeoCon Boomer hell. I know of no summary. each case is sealed and unsealed individually, so to learn the status, one has to look at the case that had a sealed indictment to begin with.

Filing an indictment sealed is not unusual. Most indictments that are filed, sealed, are unsealed within a week, as soon as defendant and any cohorts are arrested.

I don't think it's included in the count because it was filed before counting started, but the link to the complaint in United States v. Schulte, 1:17-cr-00548 shows that it was sealed. It's not sealed now - the public is able to look at it.

All a matter of local practice and stlye. I've seen quite a few John Doe cases.

I don;t know if there is a mechanism to entirely exclude a case from PACER, like the whole case, including the trial. I imagine there is. I used to hire a runner from time to time to get papers that the courts refused to file in PACER.
