Why Dr. Oz’s astrology tweet is so disappointing
Vox ^ | 06/07/18 | Brian Resnick

Posted on 06/07/2018 9:54:38 AM PDT by Simon Green

We’re used to Dr. Oz broadcasting outrageous, pseudoscientific ideas on his hugely popular daytime TV show, The Dr. Oz Show. The cardiac surgeon has for years devoted large amounts of airtime to peddling all sorts of suspect detoxes, diets, and other health misinformation. (He does sometimes offer good health information too.)

Now, because 2018 is weird, Oz is a member of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition — an advisory board devoted to promoting healthy lifestyles across the nation. One might wonder if he’d clean up his act. But it’s not happening.

On Wednesday, he (or someone running the Twitter account in his name) tweeted out this doozy to 4.3 million followers.

For centuries, we have used astrological signs to examine our personality and how we interact with those around us, however, these signs may reveal a great deal about our health as well. Discover what your astrological sign can tell you about your health:

First off, astrology isn’t real. Repeat after me: “Astrology isn’t real.” Sing it aloud: “Astrology isn’t real!”

It’s a pseudoscientific parlor game that tends to make a big deal out of insignificant coincidences. For example, Mercury in retrograde. Every few months, from our vantage point here on Earth, it looks like the planet Mercury is drawing loop-de-loops in the sky. It’s an illusion that this occurs because the Earth and Mercury are orbiting around the sun at different rates. But yet astrologers take it to mean there’s an increased chance of miscommunication, among other maladies.

Also, do you really believe that everyone born in the same month could possibly share the same cosmic destiny? What hooey!

Advertisement disguised as entertainment disguised as useful information. Not that uncommon.

Regardless of what you think of astrology - that's not an argument.

Sorta like the press - pushing communism.

The BEST video that shows that astrology is hokum:

Randi Debunks Astrology

It's only a minute and a half but it's great.

He is selling himself.

Which is what a salesman does, the product is secondary.

Astrology is fun! Read it in the morning just for fun. So in that vein I ask “why so serious?-)”. After all the author notes his show is “full of”” pseudo-science:-)

If Vox is against astrology than I must be for it!?!

I agree that 99.99% of the astrologers out there are wacko-nut-jobs but consider that Sir Issac Newton was an astrologer and few people who have walked this earth were/are smarter than Sir Issac or have a better appreciation of cause and effect. Kepler, Copernicus, Galileo, all made money and financed their research from astrologically related studies.

We know that the Farmer’s Almanac is relatively accurate yet it is based upon the effects of the moon and other planetary bodies. Gravitational effects of the moon and planetary bodies can push and pull on our atmosphere and is a scientific reality. Changes in the atmosphere by consequence effects our weather. We are effected by the weather. None of this proves Astrology and it does not give credibility to all the flaky astrologers but on a strictly theoretical level we are influenced by our environment and the weather and seasons are part of that environment.

All in all I find Sir Issac Newton to be more credible than some libtard from Vox...

The signs of the zodiac are real, they just don’t tell the story that everyone has been led to believe.

Looks like we have a typical skeptical Capricorn here. Maybe when the moon enters Jupiter he will stop bringing down our vibe.

He’s a huckster whose audience is made up of fat women who are looking for a magic bullet that will make them lose weight. Every week he has some new junk that he claims is a “game changer”. I’m surprised his show has lasted as long as it has.
