WILMINGTON, N.Y. — A skier missing from Whiteface Mountain has been found in California.
New York State Police said Constantinos “Danny” Filippidis, 49, of Toronto, was found 2,900 miles away Tuesday in Sacramento.
Filippidis was reported missing last Wednesday by friends who said he could not be found as the resort was closing.
His belongings were found at the lodge and his car was still in the parking lot.
Since then, hundreds of volunteers have spent about 7,000 hours combing the mountain.
Crews used K-9s and helicopters as part of the search.
The steep and icy terrain make the search even more challenging.
Filippidis made contact with law enforcement officers in Sacramento.
He was reported to be in good health.
The circumstances of Filippidis' disappearance remain under investigation.
Officials have not said why he went missing.
Before Tuesday, police said they had no reason to believe Filippidis was not on the mountain.

When found, he strangely had a British accent. Then, he turned into a Scotsman.
Sounds like he wanted to disappear and left belongings behind deliberately to be found.
Hate when that happens.
I’m guessing he had second thoughts on a planned fake suicide. Big life insurance policy on him lurking around somewhere, maybe his wife, other family member or friend? Or, maybe he wanted to disappear due to something shady going on in his life.
I used to ski there in the 70's before the Olympics came. The only snow guns they had, shot 1" balls of ice out to lay a base down.
When Little Cloud would open after a snow, it would be 24" of powder & no base. More then one time did my ski's get locked under a buried fallen log and I was shot out of my boots. The rest of the time pure Ice.
It was a great place to party, The bar in the basement of the St. Moritz would stay open till the last person left or we all drank all of the stock, most of the times it was the latter. LMAO
After 14 days of heavy partying, the last thing I remembered was ski on Little Nell on a Saturday and the next thing I knew I woke up Face down in my bed in New Jersey on Sunday Morning and I still had my ski outfit and ski boots on.
Riddle me that Batman, I still to this day have no clue how I got home. LMAO!

They found Rambo’s body. As a matter of fact, it stole an army truck.
What a PITA to walk up what passed for steps. Probably a 3" rise.
They were having ski jumping on the slope opposite the jump, mixing ice and hay in lieu of snow in July.
Back then a lift ticket was $10 for the 4K foot mountain. The nearest mountain to UVM wanted $13 for much less elevation.
My uncle was the GM of Whiteface during the 60’s and I recall him saying that it was a very difficult mountain to work with. No matter the configuration/composition of the snow blown onto the mountain, the wind would take more than half of it into the trees. I busted my leg and left more than a little blood at the top of Mountain Run due to a combination of ice, bravado and skill level. On a timely side note, he was being pressured about the Winter Games by the US Olympic Committee way before the ‘80 games and was totally disgusted with them. Said he wouldn’t cross the street to see the Olympics.
Snow tunnel. Mexico and the PLO are trying to sign him up.
Sorry I missed those “old school” days, though I don’t regret missing out on straight skis and rear entry boots :-)
Whiteface sounds racist.
It should be renamed European-American Face Mountain.
