I've skied Whiteface. Was there the Summer of 1975 before the decrepit wooden ski jump from the '32 Games was torn down for the 1980 Games.

What a PITA to walk up what passed for steps. Probably a 3" rise.

They were having ski jumping on the slope opposite the jump, mixing ice and hay in lieu of snow in July.

Back then a lift ticket was $10 for the 4K foot mountain. The nearest mountain to UVM wanted $13 for much less elevation.

Going to Whiteface for an annual round up in 2 weeks. It’s a challenging mountain. Because it’s the tallest rock for the weather to hit east of the Rockies it gets icy. And because it’s now run by the state the lodge and bar area have a post-apocalyptic feel. Run down, icy, tall and steep. Never crowded. I love it.
