Calling All Freeper Gearheads!
Let's talk about first cars! What was you first vehicle? What did you like most about the car? What drove you nuts? Do you wish that you still had it?
1970 Mustang coupe
What did you like most about the car?
Freedom
What drove you nuts?
I thrashed it
Do you wish that you still had it?
Yep
‘74 Chevy Vega station wagon, 4or5 speed(can’t remember). Used it for it’s intended purpose.
Dodge Ramcharger. Loved off roading. Hated doing body work on it. Yeah, it would be fun to have - as a second car or project car. 318 V8, stick.... lots of fun.
Well la de da! Just kidding, lucky you.
I dig it. It is a real pity that you had to let it go. Too bad someone couldn’t hold on to it while you were in college.
My first rig was an 84 Chev Blazer, 2.8 litre.
It’s still sitting in my driveway, but I don’t drive it much, I drive my Nissan Sentra.
That’s it! Not much there...
MGB - you are really touching on a soft spot of mine. Faults and all, I do love those cars.
Like a picture she was layin’ there.......
White, 2 door 72 Gran Torino. Had a 302, which was to small. Bought it from my dad for $2000 when I was 17.
1938 Buick Special, straight 8, suicide doors, gangster waggon. This was in 1968, I was 16 and the car was 30. The engine smoked. I bought a ‘53 Buick just for the engine to swap into the ‘38.
My first was also a 68 Cougar. Liked it pretty well, but I wound up selling it and buying a 69 XR7 convertible. That's the one I wish I had kept.
LOL I still look at it and think, I would not mind having one now!
Our last family “nostalgia car” was a 68 Mustang—maybe I should start lobbying for the next one to be a Skylark ;)
Oh I tried to find someone to take care of it...but parents had bought it and were not comfortable letting someone hang on to it for me—insurance, wear and tear, etc....They did not have room to keep it around for 2 years, so I said good bye and I cried—a lot. ;(
1966 dodge dart.....
‘55 VW bug. 37HP of fun. Bought it just off base of Ft Huachuca AZ in 68 in the metropolis of Sierra Vista AZ. Don’t remember what I paid for it, but it had to fit an E4 payscale.
Around 1979 all my parents kids had graduated college. They had always had to be careful with their money but now were actually very well off. So what does Daddy do? He buys the cheapest car he ever owned, A Pinto. I have no idea why but for some reason Daddy liked it’s looks.
I will have to say they drove it 8 or 9 years and then bought a new Lincoln Town car. I don’t believe either the Pinto or the Lincoln ever gave them any trouble but they did not drive them hard or much. Also Daddy babied his cars and he was a very good mechanic.
Tuned up, top down, heater runnin' on a winding country road in the cool of autumn .. can feel the sublime (if fleeting) freedom of it just typing this :-)
They act even better with the GM 3.4L V6 and five speed. There's a cult-community of such British/GM swaps.
We had a ‘69 Cougar————bought new-——we sold it in 1980 and our 17 year old son was NOT pleased.
