The man accused of fatally shooting a New Orleans policeman early Friday managed to recover from being shocked with a stun gun to kill the officer moments later, according to documents released Saturday.
An arrest warrant for Darren Bridges, 30, on counts of first-degree murder and other offenses gives the most complete account yet made public about how authorities believe he gunned down 29-year-old Officer Marcus McNeil in the vicinity of the 6800 block of Cindy Place, in New Orleans East.
Bridges was later shot by one of McNeil's colleagues, and he surrendered to authorities rather than bleed to death in his nearby apartment, the warrant says.
The warrant cites video showing McNeil was in a blue tactical uniform identifying him as a police officer when he encountered Bridges, who was carrying a backpack investigators said they later learned contained illegal drugs.
According to the warrant, the video shows a tussle broke out between McNeil and Bridges, who brandished what is described as "a unique firearm."
McNeil and Bridges were "the only people present at the time," according to the warrant, which seemingly conflicts with earlier accounts that gave the impression McNeil was accompanied by three colleagues when police attempted to stop Bridges.
Bridges dropped his backpack during the struggle. At some point, the warrant says, McNeil fired his stun gun at Bridges and struck him, but the weapon "appeared ineffective," and the fight continued.
Several gunshots then were fired, and McNeil could be heard screaming, the warrant says. There was a pause, and then one more gunshot rang out, leaving McNeil unresponsive, with his service pistol still in his holster. He was later taken to University Medical Center, where the medical staff pronounced him dead.

NOLA NFL players say that the Black officer’s Life Didn’t Matter.
First Degree murder of a police officer, fireman or EMT should be a Federal DP offense.
...First Degree murder of a police officer, fireman or EMT should be a Federal DP offense...
I recall DJT asking for that during the campaign.
a “unique” firearm? ..hmmmm
All murders should be a DP offense, IMO.
I don't agree. Government employees' lives aren't more valuable or important than anyone else's.
My sympathies to the family and associates of the officer who was killed. That said, I was surprised at how overweight he looked in recent photos. Is there no longer any weight requirement for most new officers? I ask this as someone who myself is overweight, so I recognize it in others.
It has nothing to do with perceived value of life. It has to do with the fact that Govt Employees PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE far more often than you do. FBI, Secret Service, Federal Investigators, TSA, are all out there to keep you safe. They place their lives in harms way, to protect you. The idea is to make the criminal think twice before killing them; so they can go home to their families after work, just like you.

F. U. media.
Stop hiding behind the passive voice to cover up who did the shooting.
And, in vehicle killings, who did the driving.
You would be surprised at how fast some of these fat boys can move. They just don’t have the endurance.
I’m interested in going home to MY family after work too. Nothing against first responders, but why should the government value my life more cheaply than theirs?
It’s not about value. It’s about the risk posed to the public by a perp willing to kill a LEO. Better the perp never again sets foot outside a jail cell. Unless it’s in a pine box. This civilian has no problem with that at all.
Fix it. Seems you misspelled ANYONE.
Bullspit. LEOs choose that line of employment for money. The average Joe walking don the street has a right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness as endowed by his Creator The govt employee is a hired hand. Granted, they also have the same rights as the average Joe, but in the line of work, they are not nor should be entitled to “some animals are more equal(important) than others” treatment.
Said as a two-career govt employee, third effort as a small business owner so don’t bother with any torrid responses. It won’t work, nor do I care. I was not a protected class, nor am I yet.
Murder is murder. Regardless whether the victim is a 2 day post conception unborn or a 99 year old semi vegetative state person, or a cop.
Some individuals forfeit their rights/lives by their actions, within the construct of the rule of law.
The best way to insure cops or average Joes get to go home after work is to assure the nation that all of us are protected by the same laws equally and without equivocation. Thinking that some status of employment makes one more protected than any other person is just un-American in its fabric.
Something about “all men are created equal” and “endowed by their Creator with certain un/inalienable rights” happens to get in the way of that elitist mode of thinking.
The last time I vacationed in NO I noticed quite a few New Orleans cops were grossly overweight.
Too much cornbread with their Jambalaya and File Gumbo.
