Bullspit. LEOs choose that line of employment for money. The average Joe walking don the street has a right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness as endowed by his Creator The govt employee is a hired hand. Granted, they also have the same rights as the average Joe, but in the line of work, they are not nor should be entitled to “some animals are more equal(important) than others” treatment.

Said as a two-career govt employee, third effort as a small business owner so don’t bother with any torrid responses. It won’t work, nor do I care. I was not a protected class, nor am I yet.

Murder is murder. Regardless whether the victim is a 2 day post conception unborn or a 99 year old semi vegetative state person, or a cop.

Some individuals forfeit their rights/lives by their actions, within the construct of the rule of law.

The best way to insure cops or average Joes get to go home after work is to assure the nation that all of us are protected by the same laws equally and without equivocation. Thinking that some status of employment makes one more protected than any other person is just un-American in its fabric.

Something about “all men are created equal” and “endowed by their Creator with certain un/inalienable rights” happens to get in the way of that elitist mode of thinking.

It cuts both ways. If you kill someone in self defense, you could still get prosecuted, and it could have been a good shoot. Things get murky with civilian shoots, and prosecutors make bad calls. An instant death penalty might work against you.

Once a cop undergoes a background check, gets trained, and someone kills him while on duty, it is much less murky than a civilian shoot.

I work in an area where i am a target. DCMA is a congress mandated Federal organization created to investigate fraud. I ensure the warfighter, and NASA get what the taxpayer is paying for. By law, I am unarmed.

I uncover fraud on the order of tens to hundreds of millions of dollars. What do you think keeps me and my coworkers safe? Goodwill? Happy thoughts? In war zones we are armed and travel with an armed contingent. Overseas we work on base. Stateside we work behind armed guards.

Daily, I investigate materials, engineering materials, workmanship
, drawings and the final product. Without any protection; there is no way to ensure that what we do;’remains unbiased.

If you don’t like it; tough. Congress and the President have spoken, it is the Law.

“Something about “all men are created equal”

Really?

I guess you’ve never heard of “hate crimes”.

That silly “equal” thing died years ago.
