As of April, there were 74,531,002 people enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program as of April, according to the latest data released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

That is up 16,705,235 in the 49 states that reported their Medicaid/CHIP enrollment numbers for both the July-to-September period of 2013 (the last quarter before the Obamacare exchanges opened) and this April.

The 74,531,002 enrolled in Medicaid/CHIP as of April includes the numbers for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

In the 49 states that reported both before the Obamacare exchanges opened in 2013 and in April 2017, enrollment in Medicaid/CHIP climbed from 56,803,091 to 73,508,326.

The total Medicaid/CHIP enrollment of 74,531,002 for April was greater than the population of France, which the CIA reports was 66,836,154 as of July 2016. It was also greater than the population of the United Kingdom (64,430,428) and Italy (62,007,540). …

And the coverage they get is better than most of the people paying taxes and paying for their own insurance get.

100% free everything. They can even get free taxi rides to the doctor! It’s wrong to take money away from people working hard to provide for their families and give it to people that aren’t providing for their families—while giving those that don’t pay better healthcare coverage.

This will drive even the paying class to demand single payer...when the freeloaders are getting better benefits than the working class it’s completely broken.

And most of these enrolled NEVER paid into ANY of our medical programs. Really unfair to those that have....because they are paying for it all. Massive freeloading.

That’s a lot of money for insurance companies.

Increasing the Medicaid rolls was one of the stated goals of Obamacare under the guise of increasing the number of “newly insured”.

They met and exceeded their goal of at least 50% of the “newly insured” coming form increases in those on Medicaid, even with some States opting out of relaxing their Medicaid eligibility requirements.

By their own measure of success, Obamacare has been an outstanding success.

For the rest of us, not so much.

Even for those “newly insured” under Medicaid it hasn’t been that great. They have a hard time getting a GP or an appointment in a reasonable time frame, so they turn up as before at the ER for treatments that either could have been treated at a regular clinic or doctor, or for situations that were not originally acute but became acute while waiting to see a doctor.

So, YEAH! they are “newly insured” but that has not translated into better health care, or even any health care for some.

Still, we have millions more “newly insured” so that’s counted as success (by their measure).

The kicker is that most of those children do not ever need to go to the doctor. Maybe for a checkup. That’s it. Throw in a flu once a year. That’s it. The money goes to the insurance companies. What is the base amount per policy that the government pays insurance companies?

You paint a rosy picture.

Many doctors will not take Medicaid insurance ... and if they do they make the patient wait weeks sometimes months for an appointment (hoping that they will give up and go away or to the ER).

So it sounds good on paper for Medicaid enrollees but in truth there were never enough doctors and other facilities to take care of this number of “newly insured” people even if they had wanted to.

Medicaid was , originally, for those who could not get any insurance or health care anywhere else, basically care for the Indigent. Now because of Obamacare the easy solution to provide Health Insurance for anyone was Medicaid. Except the dirty little secret was that costs for that program go through the roof, the government pays all cost for the the firs three year and the states start gradually paying their cost till sticker shock hits and they have to figure out how to pay the bill and they can’t.

We are in a hole with no way out.

In my neck of the woods a lot of the Medicaid roll is made up of indigent seniors. Some of whom have sheltered their money so that they can leave it to their kids while sticking taxpayers with the bill for their care.

“...Now because of Obamacare the easy solution to provide Health Insurance for anyone....”

The entire purpose of “Obamacare”, was/is to hurt the medical and insurance industry so bad, that it would drive it all to the all-expanding government control (Marxism, basically) of everything in these industries. It was NEVER intended to do the LIES that were put forth by Obama and his Democrat ilk.

A huge fraud upon the American public all in the real name of big government control of the people.

Actually in Virginia the kids get Anthem insurance...which is the same as my paid for insurance. Plus they get other perks...like no deductible, no co-pays, 100% everything—like counseling services and private social worker services for free. And free taxi rides to the doctor.

So they’re on both Medicare and Medicaid?

I don’t think I have ever encountered a pediatrician that won’t take Medicaid. There may be more now! The practice we used in Virginia might have been such a place. I’m not sure. I looked at their website the other day to see if our favorite physician was still practicing, and I was taken aback by how socialist-looking it is. All of the pediatricians are associated with the children’s hospital, and there are at least 50. The website is a mess because it is designed for a zillion people to be confused. Haha.

(We lived there years ago. Our daughter is grown and married now, and she is back in the area. She had to deal with a hospital there, and they pulled up her childhood pediatric records though she had never been treated at a hospital there. She only went to her pediatric group. And she wasn’t even the patient in question recently. Her child was! The computer had things all messed up. I think the records are still messed up!)

It is possible that the real unintended consequence was and is to bankrupt the country, and that us where we are headed.

It’s about $130/month. I know because I helped a women and her kids escape an abusive husband/father. THey had Medicaid for a while. The father was supposed to provide insurance for the kids, but he cancelled it then he got a new policy and never told her. She was responsible for paying back the money the state paid to cover her child.

If I could I’d buy into Medicaid for my kids and get rid of all the Co-pay, deductible, HSA bullcrap I have to deal with.

More on dual eligibility here...

Seniors & Medicare and Medicaid Enrollees

What ticks me off are the recipients who have legally been able to stash their cash.
