United Airlines says it will compensate the cost of tickets for every passenger on Flight 3411, where a man was forcibly removed and dragged earlier this week, according to CNBC.
The news follows a second statement from United CEO Oscar Munoz, in which he said that "no one should ever be mistreated this way" — a pivot from his Monday statement. In the latter, Munoz said the passenger was "disruptive and belligerent."
United has been in hot water since the video first emerged on Sunday, with outraged social media users calling for a boycott and leaving the airline 1-star ratings on Yelp.

Don’t think so. Trump already criticizing UA for not “making a deal.” It’s a soft warning to UA that “if you don’t fix this, government will.”
No matter what you think of this guy or this lawyer, the SENTIMENT he is tapping into has been festering for years and airlines have NOT listened to customers. Everyone has had horrible experiences with overbooking-—which technically isn’t against the law but should be. You don’t buy a seat at the Super Bowl then be told, “Oh, we overbooked.” The airlines have already received payment for THAT seat, so they don’t lose money if nobody is in it.
Trust me on this: UA made a monster mistake, letter of the “law” notwithstanding and it will reverberate through the whole industry if they don’t immediately address overbooking. Just a little prediction.

I will admit to still wanting to know more, but I’m not as sympathetic to the passenger as others are.
The guy is no more or less important than any other passenger that is bumped as a course of normal business, particularly the three bumped on the same flight, in addition to him.
I speak from the experience of 20+ years in management at one of Boston's major hospitals.And I guarantee you that the finest health care on earth is found in Boston.And I can also guarantee you that the city has far fewer problems and "bad actors" than do just about every major medical center.
Re what you call the physician’s shady past - It’s not clear he has a shady past. This man’s name differs from the one on the court records.
As I noted in Post #101 (and I provided a link) the LA Times confirmed,by calling his wife's office,that the guy taken from the flight was the one from Elizabethtown,KY.

Given his behavior at the airport he did,in fact,get what he deserved.Taking note of his past (which is now beyond question) merely tends to cause a reasonable observer to say "well,he seems to have a history of questionable behavior so we shouldn't be surprised by what happened on the plane".

That's only true if it's determined that the info they provided was *untrue*.He *did* have his medical license pulled (something which I,with my experience,can guarantee is a *big* deal in the medical world).He *is* a convicted felon.He *did* illegally provide his gay boyfriend oxys.
There are tens of thousands of passengers who have had very negative experiences on United. They’re loving all the bad press United is getting.
If you were to peek at my profile for a second you'd get the sense that I've done some flying in my day.And I have.But very little of it has been on United and I've never had an experience with them that was worthy of much comment...positive *or* negative.But what you say could well be correct.And you're right to claim that this has been a PR nightmare for United.But assuming that United was within the law to do what they did the fact that it's a PR disaster for them speaks to how breathtakingly shallow and cowardly we've become.That clown's juvenile display points,at the very least,to deep psychiatric disorders and maybe even to blatant dishonesty.IMO.
p.s. How does a woman who falsely claims to have a graduate degree in chemistry get named to head the Massachusetts drug laboratory? How does someone falsify thousands of drug tests without detection? Was she an affirmative action employee or a political appointee?

If you read my entire post, I directed my opinions not at the company and not at the "victim" but at the slavering media which is always looking for a way to sensationalize events like this one...and use it to promote its own liberal agenda.
What could be more juicy for the liberal talking heads than a greedy corporation, a minority victim plus law enforcement authorities ????

Acknowledged they were inconvenienced and delayed due to a screaming toddler who should not be in this country in the first place and who should never fly again unless sedated and in a mental health jacket with his arms and hands secured due to him being a danger to himself and others.
Showed they understand they went through an unpleasant experience just as the flight crew and security people did due to the perp in question.
Almost a half million people get bumped every year, ten percent of that are "involuntarily bumped" or rather, forced off.
The airlines do this because there is no down side for them. All they have to do is give you company credit. That will ensure that the next time you have to fly you will choose them because you want to use up your "credit". And since the credit only applies to full price fares they might be out only a few dollars or perhaps nothing at all.
Make it cash, they have to give you a voucher for a nice meal if it is under two hours and if it is over four they have to comp you a room at the airport hotel.
The airlines would suddenly discover that bumping people cost and they would stop doing it except in case of emergency.
LOL -I hear that all the time from my Boston friends about Boston hospitals. MGH stands for Man’s Greatest Hospital.
BTW, just this afternoon one of them sent me a ranking of 100 best U.S. hospitals. Horrors, MGH was ranked #3.

Just a bit of info regarding what I've said about *Boston* (as opposed to any single hospital)...more research money,public and private (private=the American Cancer Society,for example) flows into Boston than into any other city in the world.More than New York...LA...London,etc.That's an indication of just how much "talent" you'll find in the city.

I think those numbers aren’t right but I do like your ideas about comping people cash and a room for a delay more than x amount of time.
Because United violated their contract of carriage.
While a passenger may be denied boarding for any reason... and a passenger may be removed for a whole host of reasons... there is no provision in the contract to remove a boarded passenger at random to allow United employees entry to a flight.
You don’t get to call the cops and yell ‘disorderly passenger’ after breaching your own contract.

Miroslav Gronych, 37, is also banned from flying for one year after pleading guilty last month to having care and control of an aircraft while he had a blood-alcohol level that was three times the legal limit.
Plus the hospital, the tooth, etc. It was all incident to the fraud, and the judge will likely see it that way and wonder why United is in court before her in the first place.
They are going to settle and flush it out of the news cycle.
