United Airlines Will Reimburse Passengers on Flight Where Man Was Dragged Off

United Airlines says it will compensate the cost of tickets for every passenger on Flight 3411, where a man was forcibly removed and dragged earlier this week, according to CNBC.

The news follows a second statement from United CEO Oscar Munoz, in which he said that "no one should ever be mistreated this way" — a pivot from his Monday statement. In the latter, Munoz said the passenger was "disruptive and belligerent."

United has been in hot water since the video first emerged on Sunday, with outraged social media users calling for a boycott and leaving the airline 1-star ratings on Yelp.

What they actually did was drag him from the plane, dump him on the ground, walk away.

Being an Aussie you probably wouldn't know a lot about airport security here in the US.I recall seeing a still photo of this incident that showed one of the security guys involved wearing a jacket that said "Police".

Although I'm not a lawyer I'd be willing to bet that, although they didn't arrest him, they had the authority to do so under Federal law (which,in this situation, would have been the set of laws that applied).

UAL handled this so bad. They are going to pay big time. They already paid off all the passengers on the flight.

I have been flying for over 50 years. UAL is a piss poor airlines. It should never have gotten this far. Only idiots think it is good business to beat up the customers. Whatever happened to the American moto, “The customer is always right.”?

I’m blown away at how spoiled we Americans have become. It’s time we paid the price for this.

I guess you think we should be more like the North Korean people. They've learned there that the people in charge are ALWAYs right and their orders are never to be disputed.

You are exactly and completely correct, Wissa.
One wonders if these subservient statists will just roll-over-and-take-it when the next overreaching President 0bama comes along?
Their tune will change when they buy airfare and then miss their child's wedding, death of a parent, or a pivotal client meeting...well, just because.

Does anyone know how the hell he was able to get back on the plane after being in the custody of 3 big aviation security officers? Apparently, they just left him unattended. How else could it be explained?

I also wonder if they summoned medical help for him when they saw he was dazed and bleeding.

There is one simple solution to this problem: forbid overbooking. This problem has existed for decades, and is one of those protections airlines receive that few other industries have. If you sell all the seats, no one else gets on board, period, unless a passenger fails to show up at boarding time. Then standby passengers may be boarded. Other than that, a sale is a sale.

There may well be criminal charges filed before this is all over, but they won't be against the passenger. The Chicago Dept of Aviation is not pleased with what happened =>

“The incident on United flight 3411 was not in accordance with our standard operating procedure and the actions of the aviation security officer are obviously not condoned,” Aviation Department spokeswoman Karen Pride said. “That officer has been placed on leave effective today pending a thorough review of the situation."

It’s all over the internet. The whole world is laughing at United Airlines.

If you cut through the millions of words that have been written about this subject — including the monumental irrelevancy that some fine-print somewhere gave UA the “right” to do this — it all gets down to one very simple statement that is irrefutably true:

The guy was already sitting in a seat he already paid for.

Period.

End of story.

The rest is endless reams of infinite bullshit.

Agree 100%

United will never fully shake some of the wittier slogans Twitterers cooked up for them.

Come for the seating, stay for the beating.

We treat you like a king...Rodney King.

United, putting the hospital in hospitality.

Your seat cushion can also be used as a defensive device.

Etc.

“you should do your research before flaming a post....”

Nice try but zero points.

He was not arrested for being drunk while PIC.

He was arrested under an ordinance that ANY worker on the plane could be arrested under.

There are limits to how badly you can treat people who are paying you for a service before they stop muttering under their breath and become hostile.

I think it would serve these airlines who don't care about passengers if foreign airlines were allowed to fly domestic routes. We would see the end of surly flight attendants and cattle car packing of passengers. Maybe then our own airlines would show concern for their passengers.

I’ve been flying for 50 years as well and everyone knows the customer is NOT always right. Also, a rudeness has permeated our country little by little, and now we find the customer is mostly wrong.

I’m listening to one of Dao’s lawyers on tv right now and he is so full of sh$t and is litigating this case in public instead of waiting to do it in the negotiating room or the court. That’s when you know he has a weak case. This perp is medically trained and knows what to do to fake a head injury which I’m sure he’s doing perfectly.

If Dao wins watch out for heavy rolls because people are not gonna like what they get when they fly, the waiting lists to fly, and the price to fly. I’ll be laughing because it was all so preventable but a bunch of bleeding heart liberals cried and whined to force the airlines into that position.

Dao, and anyone who so much as sneezes wrong going forward, will get put on a no fly list by the airlines because just like any business; they have the right to refuse service to difficult customers.

The airlines don’t bump people off flights lightly; it is their prime mission after all to get people to their destinations. The horror stories the flight crews everywhere have would confirm a lot of people out there should not be flying. Maybe this will give them the power to submit the names of these bad customers so they don’t fly again. They can take the train or the bus or drive themselves or drive to another country to catch a flight they are allowed to be on.

Nice hyperbole. You've learned from the leftists quite well and of course none of what you said is true in America. This perp had rights he could pursue after he disembarked. He would not have those rights in NK. That was the time for him to protest but he never had the right to be violent like he was.

I really hope law enforcement throws the book at this perp for all the damage he is causing.

Once again the perp is protected and the victims, the security people in this case, are prosecuted.

This is a big problem in America and to see it being condoned here on FR is shocking.

From the video I’ve seen this perp was being completely unreasonable and acting like a spoiled 3 year old. Time is money and that perp needed to be removed from the flight. Since he refused to be a man and walk off; the security people simply had no choice other than to remove him physically like the spoiled brat he acted like.

Remember; the security people nor the flight crew knew this perp had severe mental health issues. That may be something else that changes going forward. Mental health patients like this may need to be cuffed and strapped while on the plane for their protection and the protection of other paying customers and of course; the flight crew.

"Dao's lawyer on TV right now...litigating this case in public...."

You're spot on, Boomer.

I find this press conference repelling. The issue is being litigated on TV, possibly tainting any jury pool, whipping up public opinion and sympathy for the poor minority victim and his family against a big, bad, rich, powerful and evil corporation.

These attorneys are going for a big settlement pay-off up front, without a trial where both sides can present the FACTS.

I have no idea what really happened, I'm content to wait for more data. At this point, I'm merely observing and commenting on the liberal members of the media blowing this event up into something more earthshaking than the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand that started WW1...and WHY AND HOW THEY ARE DOING IT.

The way this event has erupted is incredible....and I believe it's obviously apparent that the whole thing has now been snatched up and IS BEING POLITICIZED by the Left as we speak.

Tomorrow, the whole incident will be the fault of President Trump, capitalism, greedy corporations, the GOP, law enforcement, etal....all of whom are racists and oppressors of minorities. You can almost make book that this is what's now taking place and that it will become even more sensationalized.

Hi GSC -

Yes, I love Boston. I lived there for a while and it’s a wonderful city. (not January and February though!) While there I got to know a lot of people and sometimes got the real story - not the story people were reading in the local newspaper.

Yes, the medical care is very good, although some feel it is not as up-to-date and cutting edge as claimed. But the home of *The* Medical School and *The* Journal does provide good quality care. They have their problems and their bad actors - but no more than other centers,

Re what you call the physician’s shady past - It’s not clear he has a shady past. This man’s name differs from the one on the court records. The last name is the same though. Anyone who feels United is in the right will feel better if they think the physician is a bad guy and deserved what he got. The “Just World Fallacy” plays out once again.

United Airlines most likely got private investigators working to dig up dirt as soon as they saw the situation spiraling out of control. United Airlines is going to pay through the nose as it is. If it is determined that they provided negative information to the media they’ll pay even more.

Whether the physician was right or wrong is irrelevant at this point. There are tens of thousands of passengers who have had very negative experiences on United. They’re loving all the bad press United is getting.

p.s. How does a woman who falsely claims to have a graduate degree in chemistry get named to head the Massachusetts drug laboratory? How does someone falsify thousands of drug tests without detection? Was she an affirmative action employee or a political appointee?
