I've been having problems loading pages on Freerepublic for over a week. I thought it was just my connection (I live in the sticks and use a my-fi ATT hotspot for all my internet.
However, I have the exact same problem at my work computer in downtown Louisville on a high speed corporate network.
The problem manifests itself at least two ways: 1. Pages take so long to load that they timeout and I get a "page reset" message. 2. A partial page loads (often just the first line or two) and then eventually the rest starts showing up in chunks.
Nothing else on the internet in either location hs having any such (or similar) problem.
On a side note. If I log out and just view anonymously, I get to see the first part of the article under the title. But when I log in, I only see titles. This became the default a couple of months ago and when I go to the page to change my settings, no option is given to do so. Just a bunch of darkly colored horizontal bars that look like "partially loaded" buttons with no label.
Anybody else having these problems
It started about a week ago when FR had a hardware failure.
You ARE da’ man!
BTW: You owe me a monitor...
At 6:00 Saturday morning?
Note: I had to get through two “connection reset” messages to get to post this.
I’ve been here since 1998. I hit a LOT of sites on a regular basis. This is unusual and it is not a temporary quirk. That’s what I thought it was at first.
And then there is the issue of how the forum shows up (titles only and the page to change the view shows nothing.
Two separate computers on two separate networks. Doing it at the same time.
I’ve noticed some page load issues since the big outage last weekend.
They may have changed some of the timing tolerances internally.
Sometimes a partial page displays a few lines then pauses then finishes refreshing.
I think FR’s infrastructure is in a large part home grown. It doesn’t work like a lot of the more commercial sites. That’s not a complaint but just an observation. Considering the overall response time and the volume of information and history it’s quite an accomplishment.
That's #RussianHackers to you, Mr. Podesta. /sarc>
Merry Christmas, btw!
Lol!
It’s all part of the “Skinner Shut-down”.
Hillary lost so all of FReeper-dom must pay!

Yeah the page loading has been a little wonky for a few days.
I presumed it was some sort of a glitch out at the server farm.
Me either, at least right now.
I’m trying that. I saw it at the far right of the page. Once it loads (waiting in another tab) I’ll try it. That must be a new feature. I used to go to the settings pages to do it.
Ha! as I finished typing above, the rest of this page finally showed up (Post button, etc.)

Not going down that road, bruh.
Yes, FR has been a little sloggy here also but not bad and the pages eventually load with perhaps a 10-15 second delay.
I can, I think, help you with this: “when I log in, I only see titles”
At the top of the main forum page where there are the three tabs, “Articles,” “Activity,” and “Comments,” you are probably clicked on articles if you’re seeing the article titles. Now note just below those tabs you will see
Brevity: Headers | « Text »
You want to make sure “Text” is selected. Otherwise you will only see the titles. which appears to be one of your complaints.
Free republic working perfectly here.
No problems here. Have AT&T also which can be like dial up at times.
Yes, me too. The forum page is slow to load, and very slow to load the right-hand sidebar. It has been since that night when the server went down a few weeks ago.
I have the same problem on two different home pcs.
No slowdowns here using iPhone6 on 3G or LTE connection.
