should have been predictable since it was a prologue to episode 4...sheesh
That 300mil is for just 2.5 days. By next weekend, I expect to see double that amount. It’ll probably close in on 1bln worldwide by the time all is said and done.
I saw it Sunday night. I agree that the first act is a little choppy as the movie gets all the various plot threads up and running, but it smooths out pretty well. The third act is definitely the strongest, and really helps make the Rebellion more believable. We get to see some of the realities of such an endeavor, with multiple possible agendas, dealing with limited resources, and finally are given a glimpse of how terrifying Darth Vader is when looked at from the perspective of an ordinary footsoldier as opposed to that of a space wizard/fighter pilot with plot armor.
I agree. Much better than Episode 7.
The question wasn’t whether or not the protagonists would succeed, it was all in how it would be done. Knowing that the Allies won WWII doesn’t make movies like Longest Day, or Private Ryan, or Schindler’s List any less effective.
I don't wish to be a "spoiler", but there are a couple of very impressive "technical effects" that might astound you.
I saw it on the big screen at home, attached to my son’s computer.
The movie sucked...and not just because the guy who recorded it at the movie theater was coughing every once in a while (that was actually kind of funny). No, it sucked because the screenplay was just awful. Geez, bring Lucas back. Glad I didn’t waste $12/ticket on this garbage.
I will say that the action near the end was good, especially one particular scene with Darth Vader - so I’ll give them that. Otherwise, not so great. Better than #7, but that’s not exactly a high hurdle to jump over.
Saw it Friday. Great flick.
If you’re a star wars nerd, there is plenty to smile about towards the end of the movie as they casually reference a ton of b-string characters from the original Star Wars movie.
For those who don’t know, this story takes place just before the original Star Wars (episode 4) and it’s basically the tale of how the rebels obtain the technical plans of the death star, and its single weakness.
When you complain about the writing and say “bring Lucas back.” your troll gets a little too obvious.
I saw it yesterday, i’m kinda thinking the reshoots heard about were to RID any of the Hollywood embedded political undertones inserted. It was good but even in a good theatre the film quality sucked, cannot wait to see it on my 4K widescreen.
I might call this Episode 3.75, merged very well into A New Hope. At least they didn’t Star Trek alt timeline it.
If anything it would have sent a different message say if Hillary had won, that she would have been the Empire and Trump and the Deplorables were the resistance. The message being a green light to do whatever it demanded to fight the Empire, even if it wasn’t all white and shiny. It was war. People die.
People died for a cause, they didn’t whine from their safe spaces or universities. They volunteered for suicide missions. I’d like to ask a bunch of millenials if they would go on a suicide mission.
I would not say it was the best, but it was better than Episode 7.
I’m guessing they mean the force-loving monk and Baze Malbus, his friend. I think there was a hint of ambiguity in their relationship, but nothing overtly “homosexual” unless you were looking for it.
Do you realize you admitted to piracy on a public forum?
That 30 seconds of Darth Vader boarding the rebel ship to attempt to retrieve the plans was worth the price of admission! Awesome to see him in full costume, kicking rear.
IT’S A CONSENSUS!! FReepers loved it and I shall go see it.
Thanks guys.
I’m terrified of going to movies these days because too many times money is thrown down the tubes 10 minutes in, after you realize it’s an abysmally left wing movie!
You guys who responded made me feel like I was 8 again. :)
Not a fan of anything really since the first three. And not much of an Ewok fan either.
LOVED Star Wars and saw it like 8 times. 8 years old and was stunned and enamored.
Can’t wait to see this one!
Saw it Friday night and it was quite enjoyable. Yes, there is the obligatory PC rainbow of characters, but I completely missed the gay angle - just wasn’t there that I saw.
If you haven’t gone yet, my only alert would be to NOT bother going to a 3D showing. We did so and commented afterward that the 3D was quite lacking. My son did some poking around on the internet and saw that, apparently, it wasn’t filmed with 3D cameras so it doesn’t make that big a difference.
Vader scene is like porn for Star Wars fans.
Might be best moment of the entire franchise.

Damn... double post.
But it’s worthy of being posted twice. Lol.
