I’ve never been to Yellowstone, but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess there were prominent signs warning people to not get close to the steaming hot springs.
I learned one key thing from this story: Never go out on a limb at Yellowstone! NEVER!
I went around 30 years ago. I don’t remember signs...but the path you walk is essentially a boardwalk, with railing on both sides. I do think there was a park ranger at the beginning of the path, who gave us instructions not to leave the path...really so we wouldn’t damage the springs.
And you’d be right. Maybe he was UI or did it on a dare...he was that age. Too Bad but a lesson to others like him.
Yellowstone is very dangerous. I am surprised more people don’t “slip and fall” into the beautiful blue bubble pots.
yep- andd lots of signs warning you can fall through the crusty soil into hidden hot water, too.
I said something about Darwin Awards out loud, which went right over their heads.
I’ve been. It’s spectacular! Put it on your Bucket List.
BUT - STAY ON THE MARKED TRAILS AND WOODEN PATHWAYS...or yer daid. Seriously daid.
And don’t poke the elk or the buffalo, either!
This has been a Public Service Announcement. :)
There are walkways that are there for a reason—and plenty of signs warning you not to wander off them.
Yellowstone is amazing—definitely worth a visit.
Probably a “Keep on Trail” sign. My first time in the Everglades, I came upon an orange cone on the trail. Hmmmmm....wonder what that’s about. Hear some squeaks and small splashes. Now, I’m an inveterate swamp rat from way back, so I move in a little closer. Baby alligators! Which means mommy alligator. Babies were between me and her, or I’d have some wicked scars.
Ive never been to Yellowstone, but Im going to go out on a limb and guess there were prominent signs warning people to not get close to the steaming hot springs

There are signs EVERYWHERE about staying on the designated path. You would have to be blind not to see them. There are also signs everywhere about keeping away from the bison, and we saw people going 10 feet away from them to take a picture.
We visited many years ago. It’s a bit disconcerting to pull over to an area covered in macadam so cars can park & discover a hot spot coming up under the macadam & melting through. It had little flags & tape around it. But that’s how dangerous Yellowstone is.
And yes, there are signs EVERYWHERE. Stay on the marked paths!
Most of them. IWarnings are just about everywhere for everything. Going to the Great national parks and observing the idiots is a kind of fun way to spend an afternoon.
Been along time, but boardwalk paths with signs warning people not to get off them from what I remember...
I was there many years ago. Yes there are warning signs. This was sheer stupidity. It is not the safest place in the world to visit, but deliberately deciding to take dip in one the hot bubbling areas is just crazy.
