By scrapping antiquated headphones, Apple is doing something extraordinary for music (Link Only )
“What I cant figure out is how the Airbuds figure out which is the right ear and which is the left, with no user input and placed in the ears randomly.”

Going by the pic accompanying the article, it would seem that they work with the the things that look like small tampons pointing forward. They would each only fit one ear in specific when aimed that way.
No, there is no 3.5mm audio jack built in to the iPhone 7, but there is a free Lightning port to 3.5mm adaptor included with the iPhone 7 that connects any earphones or accessory that requires a 3.5mm jack to the iPhone 7 so those can still be used. They also provide a set of new Lightning connected earbuds.
Oh, what a trip down memory lane. I had the Timex 1000. Complete with the memory pack and printer. They were fun. . . fiddling to get the volume control on the tape deck volume just right to play back the recorded programs you had saved. . . after waiting fifteen to twenty minutes to learn it wasn't loud enough. LOL! Still, $199 (IIRC) for a real computer was great!
I think w/o the peripherals the Timex/Sinclair was $100. Had a C64 also, then on to a TRS-80 ( & CoCo3 later) with a speedy 300 baud modem. Those old PCs were great for learning BASIC programming on.
You can get emulators of them that run on Windows, was fun playing a few interactive text games (like “Deadline”) on the C64 emulator. I wasn’t much for the Pacman/DonkeyKong type games.
I think I got the Timex with the 16K accessory as a package for the $199.
Why the heck did they do that? What was wrong with the standard 3.5mm jack? Will the adapter always be free? What if it breaks, will they replace it for free?

I still have all my old PCs, though the Sinclair is badly damaged inside. Outside looks nice, tho!
Yeah, the accessories added a lot to cost. I got ‘em mostly for the CoCo, which had a slot where you’d slide em in. The voice pac was fun, sounded like Stephen Hawking. Used the 300 baud modem pak for BBS and, later, for Compuserve. Worked good enough for the time.
They hate technology and they take it Apple's advances so personal!
I'm glad that wired earplugs are gone. Always getting snagged on something and pulling out of my ears. I'm glad to move into the 21st Century.
Of course I looked at the Timex Sinclair ZX81 but found it lacking.
