I think w/o the peripherals the Timex/Sinclair was $100. Had a C64 also, then on to a TRS-80 ( & CoCo3 later) with a speedy 300 baud modem. Those old PCs were great for learning BASIC programming on.
You can get emulators of them that run on Windows, was fun playing a few interactive text games (like “Deadline”) on the C64 emulator. I wasn’t much for the Pacman/DonkeyKong type games.

I think I got the Timex with the 16K accessory as a package for the $199.
