A Bloodbath of Shows Axed for New Shows to Debut Next Season

It wasn't quite the Red Wedding, but Thursday brought viewers news of more than a dozen prime-time shows being axed to make room for new programs next season.

ABC took the sword to seven series (including country music drama "Nashville" and veteran whodunit "Castle") while Fox is sacrificing five freshman shows, including comedies starring aging pretty boys Rob Lowe and John Stamos.

Meanwhile, CBS is deleting "CSI: Cyber" after this, its sophomore season, thus laying to rest the "CSI" dynasty that encompassed four series during a 16-year span.

The official body count — as well as new programming blood for the 2016-2017 season — will be rolled out next week at the networks' "upfront" sessions for advertisers.

But through a combination of network leaks and networks jumping the gun, a flood of announcements got early exposure Thursday.

The Grinder was weird, but Fred Savage was funnier than I could have imagined. I liked everything about that show except the obscene Thanksgiving episode.

The Longmire books are really good if you haven’t found those yet.

Maybe they did it as soon as she landed? Or with a kryptonite ear piercing tool? Or she did it with her own heat vision?

Or it’s just an....oops lol

The quality of Castle has noticeably dropped off the last few years, this season in particular. I'm not surprised that it was cancelled.

So, I guess this Monday's season finale is the series finale. I heard they filmed two endings to it, depending on what the network did. There have been rumblings that Stana was not returning next season to play Becket, and that the character Laney wasn't coming back, either.

“To be replaced by shows with queers in leading roles.”

And feminist nags outsmarting metrosexual men, and 95 pound girls slaughtering armies of ninjas in hand to hand combat.

While wearing 6” heels, perfect makeup and hair extensions. Yes, I mean all 3 categories of characters.

I was a fan of “Agent Carter”, I love those 1940’s period pieces. I hope one of the streaming networks will pick this up. I love that guy who plays the Howard Hughes type character Howard Stark. Big Hayley Atwell fan, she is great.

I thought there was a short season 2, but I never got around to watching it on Netflix.

The show "Jericho" was like that, too.

Got to make room for all the aggressive new propaganda for the election season.

"I didn’t see Obama on it, since I fast-forwarded through that part of the show."

I didn't see Michelle Obama on it either. I fell asleep. :-)

I’ve heard of them, but I admit I have not read any (yet). I just started read The Expanse novels. Pretty good.

” NCIS was renewed. “

Stopped watching NCIS when they went to NSA headquarters and portrayed them all as cool, young hipsters in a place that looks like Google headquarters. (and picked up the god-awful blonde chick who ran circles around Gibbs and co.) (More annoying than Clara on Dr Who).

Was tiring of Gibbs et al. before that - it was becoming and has become one of the top disinformation programs on tv. I just read that Wookie was on the show, and yup. Propaganda.

Also pissed me off when DiNozzo (Weatherwax) appeared in the Sara Silverman video as Jesus, and loved abortion.

Of course it’s renewed. DC can’t do without it.

Three or four years ago, some 27 to 30 programs on broadcast networks were cancelled 2 years in a row.

It is rather humorous that NBC wanted to cancel Chuck after the 1st year. They got enough flack that they continued it. It became one of the only stable viewership programs NBC had had in a long time. It lasted 5 years.

ABC almost cancelled Castle at the end of its first year. Again, the fan base rose up and caused ABC to renew it. It has had a relatively solid fan base for 8 seasons.

The CW almost did the same after the first year of Supernatural. Supernatural recent got renewed for a 12th season.

Network execs don’t always make good decisions.

Fox’s new Houdini and Arthur had such low viewership last week, I expect it to be pulled soon.

CBS is apparently adding a reworked MacGyver next season.
