Cruz: The One We Waited For... and then Rejected

I don't know about you but I'm sick and tired of this election season. FR has turned into a bickering board of bitter bubbleheads, it seems. Where we used to see Ted Cruz as a principled conservative... we now attack anyone who likes him as a "Cruzite" or "Cruzombie"... what happened?

First, there was the attack against him that he played dirty tricks in Iowa by relaying an MSM message that Carson was leaving the race. What would you do? If you are in a popularity contest against multiple opponents, wouldn't you make sure that the votes of an ideological brother weren't wasted on a failed effort? It's a logical reasoning... and you don't have days to debate it in committee, you have minutes and seconds before votes are tallied. That Cruz apologized at all for this news media-inspired fiasco shows him to be the bigger man.

Then what? He's following the rules and gathering delegates? I thought we wanted someone who knows how the game is played and can win elections... silly me. The Trump supporters don't seem to realize that DT is not the closer he claims to be. He is riding a wave of populism but is losing on the rules because he is disorganized and unprepared.

Saying all of this doesn't mean I am anti-Trump... I am anti-Dem whether the Dem is Hillary, Bernie, or Biden. Doesn't matter to me. If Trump is the eventual nominee, he will get my vote to stop the Dem machine's destruction of our great country.

In the primary, though, I want the most conservative in the race who has shown he knows how to win. That man is Ted Cruz. Why he is slimed on a conservative board is beyond me... and it saddens me. Maybe he isn't your guy... fine. Why does he have to be slimed? If he does manage to pull out an upset... what have you accomplished but hurting our best chance for conservative restoration in this country?

I don't consider somebody who has filed for bankruptcy 4 times, 'a winner'

LOLBOOM!

In addition to other Presidents such as Ulysses S. Grant, Thomas Jefferson went bankrupt several times. I'd consider him 'a winner'...

There’s a difference between Jim Baker and Billy Graham. You are supporting Jim Baker.

No.

Do you want a discussion? Or do you want to lecture and condescend? Answer the question.

And I fear the wounds are now fatal no matter who wins the nomination.

Unless something dramatic changes I don’t think we have a snowball’s chance in winning in November because one side or the other is going to get their feelings hurt and stay home on election day. It’s a shame.

Neither one is going to be able to unite the base. Without the base all on board, no win

Even though the Bernie voters say they won’t vote for Hillary in the general, ultimately they will. The reason is the Dem bases votes on whomever keeps the freebies going

Not arguing your ad hominems. Please be specific so we can discuss. Pick a lie.

Like I’ve said before, when people say “Cruz lied” it more often than not means “ Donald Trump told me Cruz lied”

I was here during the Romney battles and the fight is far worse.

Well, we have until 2020 to find a candidate everyone can agree on to run against Madame President

Trump is going to be one of the worse candidates we could ever put up against Hillary. His negative rating with the public, his lack of consistent principles, his over reaction to the slightest bit of criticism all but guarantee a good night for Hillary. It pains me to say this, but the best candidate we could put up against her is Kasich

Nevertheless, I’ll more likely than not vote for him as he won’t tax me to death like she would

“The notion that a person born a citizen of another country could also be a natural born citizen of the the United States is ludicrous. Cruz knows it but is running anyhow.”

It is not “ludicrous”. The meaning of “natural born citizen” is that no naturalization process is required for the person to become a citizen. Ted Cruz was a US citizen at birth, satisfying that requirement. There have been court rulings confirming that he’s “natural born”.

“Truthfully, I know everything that I will ever need to know about that man right there. Other issues would be of concern, but that one is plenty enough for me.”

In the old days, when people were much less mobile, it made more sense to require birth on US soil. The fact of the matter is that two US citizen parents and birth on US soil does nothing to guarantee the quality of a person, their loyalty to the country, or their fitness to be President.

Ted Cruz is a fine conservative, and more American in his way of thinking than most who satisfy the circa-1800 definition of “native born”. The smears originating with Don Trump and his minions are disgraceful and beyond the pale.

No, I have a problem with a corrupt oligarch who brags about buying political influence — and has been shown to abuse such influence, as in the case where he used corrupt politicians to try to force a widow out of her home so he could park limos.

“has tens of thousands come hear him at rally’s.”

So what? Bernie had 27,000. Does that make Bernie fit?

In fact, Bernie got almost as many votes in NY as Trump, Kasich and Cruz COMBINED.

Hillary got more than Trump, Kasich, and Cruz combined.

Crowds are often stupid and make stupid choices — e.g., Obama.

“The American dream is not getting wealthy by structuring bankruptcies, and swindling elderly people out of their life savings, although it does seem to be the ‘New York Dream.’”

Good post.

Actually, minus super delegates Bernie could be winning before last night.
Bernie has the Drmocrat machine against him also.

Shows you when the elite are against you trying to keep their money, jobs and power it gets tougher to win.

Yeah, I essentially dropped off for several years. I just came back for the 2016 election thread. I have way been too busy for FR until recently.
