I am wondering if any FReepers had unexpected results when they did a DNA test during a family History search.
In my case I was looking for an oppressed history of serfdom and general nastiness from Norman Overlords during the Middle Ages, just preparing for an Obama America.
To my surprise I discovered we were Normans, in the Staple, Merchants, and in general capitalists, until God and Religion brought us unto this Blessed Shore to continue in the same trades.
So in this election year of the usual Freeper cage fights I thought to step outside the blood and gore of FReeper politics and speak of Family History.
Must be Irish.
Meh. In my case the gov got my DNA long ago when I was in the Army. I did an Ancestry DNA kit a little while ago. Is there a particular place I can check to see if I’m descended from anyone famous, or would the website put that up front? I got the result already, but I didn’t see anything on my results page about being related to anyone of note.
Scandinavian DNA shows up in people from England, Scotland, Ireland, Normandy, Ukraine, Turkey, and Middle East among other places. It turns out that the Vikings were not just looking for gold.
Just make sure 0bamaD0ntCare doesn’t gather those data...
Curious as to cost? Care to say like cheap, moderate, expensive?
If not I understand.
.
Unless, of course. he claims to be Muslim and moves back to Europe as a "refugee".
Quite possible. War time joke in England
"Did you hear about the new utility knickers (underware)?"
"One Yank and they are off"

23 and me - they provide lot of info.
My God man if you had a lot of Zeta Jones running around what would do?
I’m a mutt. My nose is cold. Course it’s about 15F....
I'm also in the direct bloodline of both William of Normandy and Harold, King of the Saxons whom his army killed at Hastings.
William the Conqueror is an ancestor nobody wants to brag about. The guy cranked out bastard children like a tom cat in heat and so did many of the children. I haven't seen any definite statistics, but I'd be willing to wager that even more people with roots in England are related to him than Charles Martel, who had the advantage of several generations and, if memory serves me well, is also an ancestor of William.
Another interesting factoid is that many of the most prominent puritans can trace their ancestry back to Plantagenet royalty. This may include the common ancestor (surname Hinckley) between ObaMao and Dick Cheney, who is also in my family tree.
After Henry VII put an end to the Plantagenet royal line at the battle of Bosworth Field, many of them found religion in the ensuing century and a half.
Interesting stuff!
My father’s side of our family supposedly descends from one of the eight families who accompanied William the Conqueror in his conquest of England, 1066...it’s from a 3 volume set of books on ancestry and genealogy published by our family association in 1988.
Mine also but we don’t talk about the Quakers.
I did it hoping to confirm old family lore that there was a Native American in the family tree. Nary a trace. Seems we are purely white stock, principally English with a mix you’d expect from English history (Irish, Scot, Scandinavian, North Western European).
Yeah, didn’t some law enforcement ask Ancestry.com for info. They were looking for ‘familial connections’.
Try the lesser Nobility and Commoners of Wales a lot of good info.
