Cancer Loves Sugar CBS 60 Minutes April 2012

Sobering report. If you have cancer, you should avoid sugar of any kind. If you don't want cancer, I suggest that you limit your sugar intake. Avoid "high fructose corn syrup", and processed sugars. If you want to lose weight, avoid things that quickly become sugar (white breads, potato, rice, alcohol, etc). Reducing these things has a major impact on your liver and pancreas. Eat lots of green things!

When I was given my diagnosis the doctor handed me a script, and when I said, you’ll be telling me I’ll be taking this for the rest of my life...and he said YES, and the dose will need to be increased over time...

I walked out of the clinic, threw the script in the rubbish, and started to Google.

Within three months, I had lost a stone in weight, my daily readings (two hours after food) were down to normal, I changed doctors.

I still check my blood levels regularly, particularly after I (rarely)treat myself to chocolate cake or ice cream.

Our levels in Oz are calculated differently, mine are sometimes 4.5 and the highest has been 6.8.
I don’t know how to convert to your system.

It’s simple. Sugar is poison, as is white refined flour, and processed foods. I eat very very little wholemeal bread, lots of salad and vegetables and beef and chicken and fish - potatoes aren’t evil if you buy the Low GI variety.

Good post. My mother’s doctor said to me when she was dying: her cells have broken down. It’s only natural.

Thank you so much! My mother passed away without any pain or suffering. The nurses said that she had somehow moved past the suffering. She died two weeks after the diagnosis sleeping the entire time. It truly was a miracle for her and the family!

That's wonderful Shimmer1. I know that diet is very important to overcoming many diseases.

Having said that, I was just saying I don't believe sugar is a causative factor any more than anything else. But if cancer feeds on it, it should certainly be avoided. :)

Neurogenesis and Atkins style high protein diets....is there a correlation and has it been validated to increase new neurons in the hippocampus ?

Value your opinion..... Thanks ahead of time.

Meds and nutritionally. Mostly meds then, but nutritionally now.

I’m not sure I would say “causative” I’m not sure what I’d call it! All I know is that I’ve got to do everything I can to help myself. Apparently I’m prone to the damn thing. (not prone genetically however)

“Neurogenesis and Atkins style high protein diets....is there a correlation and has it been validated to increase new neurons in the hippocampus?”

Some of the videos did comment about there being evidence of beneficial effects associated with true ketogenic diets that results in a person being in nutritional ketosis, but I am not aware of any comments about the role of an Atkins or New Atkins Diet that allows higher percentages of protein in the daily caloric intake.

Judging from what I saw in the videos, it would surprise me to see one of them claim a diet high in protein could be useful for neurogenesis. The reason for this surprise is the dangers involved with any diet that increases the protein percentages to greater than a small percentage of daily calories. There are some dangerous consequences to the liver when chronic overdoses of protein result in liver toxicity and adverse autoimmune disorders. It should also be noted that high levels of sugars in the bloodstream from any forms of carbohydrates is reported to be associated with damaging the myelin that sheathes the nervous system. This damage they believe plays a major role in a wide assortment of neurological disorders. When a diet has an amount of protein that exceeds the very small requirement of the daily metabolism, your metabolism will convert the excess protein into forms of glucose. The glucose converted from the protein may elevate the blood sugar levels and insulin response levels until metabolic syndrome begins and causes weight gain and eventual diabetes. Since sugars in the bloodstream can damage myelin and cause neurological disorders, presumably the glucose derived by the metabolism from the protein would simply make the neurological disorders worse instead of better. Perhaps there will be another video will give reason why that would not happen?

“Our levels in Oz are calculated differently, mine are sometimes 4.5 and the highest has been 6.8.

4.5 mmol/L = 81.0 mg/dL
6.8 mmol/L = 122.4 mg/dL

mmol/L = millimolar per Liter/Litre
mg/dL = milligrams per deciliter = milligrams per 100 milliliters

See:
Blood Sugar Converter

Convert blood sugar/glucose from mmol/L (UK standard) to mg/dL (US standard) and vice versa using our blood sugar converter.

Whats the difference between mmol/L and mg/dL?

Slightly off topic - check in to FR a bit later than usual. For at least 10 years I had high blood pressure, after a whole life of low BP. About 8 or 9 months ago I went to an acupuncturist for horrid low back pain/related pain and she said I needed some herbs to help with blood stagnation, a Chinese medical term basically. So I told her I’d make my own formula, since I’m an herbalist, altough I don’t use Chinese herbs much. I made a formula, took it until about 10 days ago when I used it up. I have felt much better.

But then figured I better check my BP, and made an herb formula for it (have helped other people) and ordered a digital BP monitor, so I could check it myself. I couldn’t believe it, BP went down to low. From 160/100 to between 90-115/55 to 65. Just from herbs.

Diet and herbs and some decent exercise can make a huge difference to health. I’m happy to hear how well you are.
