Why would Chrysler take the two most bulletproof engines known to man (the 318 truck block and the Jeep 258 six) and replace them with a fragile as glass 4.7 psychadellic SPAGETTI infected, non adjustible, Windows based, software nightmare???
Then, they put on an EGR system that is completely unnecessary and the EGR valve is in the worst possible place to service or test!!
Rant off ... That is all

After four weeks of chasing the problem and replacing every control part of the EGR system it still won't run right and won't throw a code.

They obviously learned their Engineering skills from the Republican National Committee.

I had a ‘72 stepside Dodge truck with a 318 and a four speed trans. with a ‘granny’ gear. We pulled stumps with it. That was one tough, reliable truck.

Indeed. If Tony can’t fix it again, he’s out of a job.

I’m keeping my ‘87 with the slant six and manual tranny (provided the gears survive teaching grandkids to drive a stick).

I hear ya! I was a line mech at a Chrysler/Plymouth garage in 78/79 and went through the same crap. Used the ‘computer’ that was the size of a battery charger cart and it NEVER gave the same code twice. The service manager said to throw parts at it until it ran halfways right. Maddening!

To be fair, you Do know who bought Chrysler? Yes, I realize that and I still contend that Fiat would never have come into the picture if The pentastar management hadn't killed the B van and the Neon as well as doing stupid engineering tricks like the 4.7

I have worked on both engines in my first career as a mechanic, they are absolutely bullet proof.

Im keeping my 87 with the slant six and manual tranny (provided the gears survive teaching grandkids to drive a stick). Another one of the legendary Chrysler mills. The hyperpack 225's were so dominant on the track the stock car boys banned them. AND you could access everything without being a contortionist

Drinking while swinging a wrench will reach the point of diminishing returns after a fashion..........put the Craftsman down, it'll wait until tomorrow. Believe me, been there, done that.

AND you could access everything without being a contortionist Yep! I also have a '41 International in the herd. I showed the old Green Diamond Six to my nephew, (flathead, 1 bbl carb, etc.), who is used to modern engines buried in hoses and wiring. He said "Where's the rest of it, Uncle Joe?"
I told him, "It was 1941 and there was a war on. That's all you got."

I probably don’t keep up with Chrysler as well as I should, but I have to admit to a serious jones.
I want one of those 707hp Hellcats really bad. The new 666 edition is the stuff young men’s (which I ain’t) dreams are made of.
Just thinking about it makes my right foot itchy.

Best engine ever built.
I had a young fella tell me the engine in my truck was in sad shape. “Just listen to those valves rattle, you need to rebuild it quick.”
I told him I would worry when the valves *stopped* rattling.
Drove another 6 years with no problem.
Fella I sold it to still drives it every day.
The valves still rattle nicely.
30 years later I still miss that truck.
