Human hunting weapons may not have caused the demise of the Neanderthals
Phys dot org ^ | April 28, 2015 | Journal of Human Evolution

"We looked at the basic timeline revealed by similar stone points, and it shows that humans were using them in Europe before they appeared in the Levant - the opposite of what we'd expect if the innovation had led to the humans' migration from Africa to Europe," said Dr. Kadowaki.

"Our new findings mean that the research community now needs to reconsider the assumption that our ancestors moved to Europe and succeeded where Neanderthals failed because of cultural and technological innovations brought from Africa or west Asia."

By re-examining the evidence, the researchers showed that the comparable stone weapons appeared in Europe around 42,000 years ago, and in the Levant 39,000 years ago. They believe the timings imply several new scenarios about the migration of modern humans into Europe. For example, they are likely to have migrated to Europe much earlier, and developed the tools there.

"We're very excited about our new model. We think the causes of human evolution are more complicated than just being about technology. Now that we've re-examined the traditional model about the northern migration route to Europe, we are planning to re-evaluate the model on the southern migration route - from East Africa to South Asia" said Dr. Kadowaki.

The Neandertal Enigma
by James Shreeve

in local libraries
"Frayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]

It was the internecine warfare between the Neanderthals and the Neandertals that made them an easy prey to the Cro-Magnons.

read an interesting book recently: the invaders
http://www.amazon.com/Invaders-Humans-Their-Neanderthals-Extinction/dp/0674736761/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432379486&sr=8-1&keywords=the+invaders

basic thesis is man migrating from “the Levant” had dogs, and neanderthals had no dogs. that gave modern man a major advantage in hunting and allowed taking of any and all game, including mastodons which apparently were the favorite food.
also, the climate shifted and the hunting became more open, which was disadvantageous to the heavier bulkier Neanderthals but fit the lighter faster modern humans hunting with dogs. so basically the theory is modern man out hunted neanderthals.
the book has some interesting facts about the co-evolution of dog and man especially he ability to communicate via eye movement and eye color, which the author claims is unique to dogs and man. bit of a geeky read, but sounds like it could be right to me.

As a white male Christian, we are constantly under attack for embracing God’s perfect wisdom.

That said, I’ve always wondered how to square “Neanderthal” with God’s Word in the Bible and Adam/Eve.

Any comments will be appreciated...

That’s interesting, but Neandertal didn’t die out. :’) Also, the book may have referred to the mammoth rather than the mastodon:

> ...the Eurasian species Mammut borsoni died out approximately three million years ago.

This is amusing and bemusing at the same time:

> Neanderthals... did seem to have one thing in common with rodeo riders: injuries. In 1995, paleoanthropologists Thomas Berger and Erik Trinkaus, now at Washington University in St. Louis, noted that Neanderthals had a disproportionate number of injuries to their heads and necks. The same is true among modern rodeo riders... Neanderthals’ [alleged] hunting style — sneaking up on prey and jabbing them with heavy spears — brought their upper bodies within striking distance of large, hoofed animals... Recently, in the Journal of Archaeological Science, Trinkaus... considered the injuries recorded in the bones of early modern humans... Statistically speaking... saw no difference between the two species’ wounds; they both suffered a lot of harm to the head and neck. This means ambush hunting may not account for all of these injuries because humans [allegedly] often hurled projectiles at animals while standing back at a safe distance. Recent archaeological work indicates Neanderthals might have done the same thing on occasion. Instead, the source of those injuries might have been violent attacks within or between the two species.

What it may mean is, the constant saddling on of reasons for alleged N extinction includes supposed differences in hunting styles. The differences basically don’t exist, and the anatomical differences that are supposed to be oh-so crucial are imaginary, much like the ongoing “Neandertal couldn’t talk” fiasco.

...Deodorant that killed the beast!

Don Henley disagrees and stated "They stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the beast."

Just waiting for the punchline that “climate change” caused the demise of the Neanderthals.

I noticed that too. The Progressive agenda is insidious in its quiet uniformity. Its like a hive mind.

16 So Cain went out from the Lord’s presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

17 Cain made love to his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch.

I’m not saying that his wife was Neanderthal, but other people did exist—perhaps people who evolved from apes instead of being created by God.

you should scan the book i mention. it makes a convincing argument that the anatomical differences are significant, starting with the daily caloric requirement, roughly 2x in neanderthals. anatomy better suited to ambush hunting , not running game down. poor strategy in open ground.

also, why do you say the didn’t die out? they became extinct. is there a difference?

apparently climate change was a factor, the change expanded open grasslands and decreased forest. changing the prey and hunting.
neanderthals retreated to what is now spain, in response, and may have overlapped modern humans by as little as 2,000 years.

Nearly all of what is called “Christianity” today asserts that Adam & Eve were the first people created and that all of the races of humanity are descended from them. A careful study of the Bible and the world around us shows that this can not be true. There were many races of people in existence long before Adam & Eve. And some of them are still around.

Thanx Bryan ... that makes at least two conspiracy wing nuts

I firmly believe this and I notice these "little" things more and more

HERE'S one;

Alleged intelligent people (even on FOX and othe popular right-sort'a video's) begin a sentence with the upward inflection, "So .. ", which, in my opinion, is a subtle way to let the illiterate government indoctrinated kids know or feel .... "Hey ... I'm one of you ... y'know?"

Which grates irritably against my .. "Their (children) job is to come up to US ... not us go down to THEM" ... principle.

knarf: "The only purpose for this article is to get the word “lavant” out into the vocabulary so ISIL will be more acceptable as ISIS"

The word "Levant" dates back many centuries:

Light green = historical "Levant".
Dark green = today's reference to "Levant".

How can I look around me today and conclude God said the wrong thing 4, 6, 10 thousand years ago ?

Actually .... anyone that looks into ancestry knows resemblances carry through a LOT of (inter) marriages

There just might BE only 8 "types" in the world

Not going to get into a pissing match, but I do protest your statement
