a new poll shows that Republican voters who rally to that cry still want to maintain many federal programs.

The results, from an online poll of 4,770 adults from April 10 to 24, highlight a dilemma for Republican candidates such as Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky and Senator Ted Cruz of Texas who have made reducing the size of government a top campaign theme.

The moral of the story is, once you start any entitlement, it is politically impossible to stop it.

People like big government but they do not want to pay for it nor have big government tell them what to do. It all goes together except for the paying. That is something that some can impose on others — such as Democrats on Republicans.

With SS and Medicare, what happens is once started it can’t really be stopped because everyone has been forcibly invested in it.

Social Security has always been a Ponzi scheme. Current workers pay benefits of previous workers who are retired and collecting benefits.

SS and Medicare aren’t entitlements they are a contract that was forced on us if we wanted employment, however we are so far into it that it would be impossible to shut it off now.

I,a guy old enough to recall black & white TV and phone numbers that started with letters, like SS and Medicare for one...and *only* one...reason.

Because I've paid tens and tens (and tens) of thousands of dollars to fund them.

I think they mean people who have had monies forcibly taken for decades expect to get something back out of it. If you look at who doesn’t like SS and medicare it is the under 40 professional who knows he will never see a dime of it back.

Sadly it has proven to be true, again and again. That is why Obamao was elected twice.

Most seniors get far more in benefits than they ever paid in.

Conservative presidential candidates hitting the 2016 campaign trail are firing up crowds with calls to shrink the U.S. government, but a new poll shows that Republican voters who rally to that cry still want to maintain many federal programs.

This graph shows that the average man and woman (average defined in the study as average income over their working lives and living to the average life expectancy) who start receiving benefits in 2010 get over 3 times more in benefits than they pay in to the system! Of importance, the study accounts for inflation by calculating all past taxes and future payments in 2010 dollars to provide an accurate comparison.

If the notion that Medicare recipients are simply "getting back what they paid in" is false then where is the money coming from? Simply, the excess received is being borrowed from younger generations and the cost is more than we can bear.

40% of all Medicare expenditures come from the General Fund. The premiums paid for Medicare Parts B and D cover only 25% fo the costs.

And a Ponzi scheme where the government has been able to keep trillions of dollars and spend it on anything but SS.
