Bruce Jenner was once hailed as the greatest athlete in the world and later became a reality television star with one of the world's most famous families. Now, the former Olympian is revealing a secret that has caused him turmoil for decades.
"For all intents and purposes, I'm a woman," Jenner told ABC's Diane Sawyer in an exclusive interview that aired Friday in a special two-hour edition of ABC News' "20/20."
"People look at me differently. They see you as this macho male, but my heart and my soul and everything that I do in life -- it is part of me," Jenner, 65, said. "That female side is part of me. That's who I am."

They hinted in the program where the error takes place. It’s in the brain. Under scans the brains of males and females look different. And some people have “female” looking brains while having male bodies. This is not something he could help. He did what you intolerant bullies wanted, for 60 some years. It is clearly not normal. Neither is dyslexia, or schizophrenia, or ADHD. But none of them are the person’s fault. When brains are damaged, we need to be more understanding and kinder.
Many people with this problem kill themselves. Mostly because idiots like some of you FReepers mock them mercilessly. If you were on this thread mocking this man describing his mental illness, don’t call yourself a good person. He feels the way he feels because there is something unusual about his brain. It is, if you will, a female brain (which can be seen in a scan). It is not something he chose.
I have a sister that is transgender and it really up sets me that a majority of those posting here are doing it out of hatred or think the situation is a joke and is funny. I know my sister is mentally ill when she thinks that she should be a guy but unfortunately society wants to indulge there illness rather then face it. I agree with the statement that there head is wired differently you are right they deserve are compassion but not approval of it being treated as anything other then a mental illness.
I’m sure that Olympic athletes have a higher-than-average rate of very abnormal parents and parent-child relationships.

Bruce Jenner is flaunting this before the entire world knowing full well the attention..money ...and notoriety he will get by doing so.... The entire Kardashian family offers nothing, does nothing.... but create sensations for human consumption and 'anywhere' they can make money and show themselves..... That is the difference between those who deal with their problem and those who are "flamers".
Jenner wants the attention just as the rest of his family does....what do they do but create sensationalism as a career? Nothing at all. So this isn't about his transforming himself...this is about the sensationalism and the monetary rewards he will get by doing so...that's what they all "Do" for a living.
That was his third marriage and he did so just five months after meeting the last one.....so the guys batting zero when it comes to commitment....I suspect then he will do likewise with this female he wants to become. But he’ll be “stuck” with her.
I do think that will be his next move....remember he kept saying...How will my life end?....Well...he’s already planned that too IMO.
E! Entertainment network announced that Jenner would be part of ‘a documentary series’ about the transition that would begin airing....
