Former Hewlett-Packard chief Carly Fiorina on Thursday blasted Apple CEO Tim Cook's opposition to Indiana's religious freedom law as "hypocrisy."

Fiorina, a potential 2016 GOP presidential contender, said Cook had a double standard and cited Apple's operations in other countries with controversial laws about gays and women in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
“When Tim Cook is upset about all the places that he does business because of the way they treat gays and women, he needs to withdraw from 90% of the markets that he’s in, including China and Saudi Arabia,” Fiorina argued. “But I don’t hear him being upset about that."
Fiorina said his stance exposed a “level of hypocrisy here that is really unfortunate.” She added that Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration Act contained “nothing objectionable" and that Cook’s criticism stemmed from “narrow special interests” rather than reality.
“I think this is a ginned-up controversy by people who play identity politics that has divided the nation in a way that is really unhelpful,” Fiorina added.
Cook, who came out as gay last year, criticized the Indiana measure when it was signed into law last week. The CEO said it ran counter to Apple's policies on tolerance.
“Apple is open for everyone,” he tweeted March 28. “We are deeply disappointed in Indiana’s new law.”
The bill's supporters argue it is a necessary protection for businesses against government meddling in their faith-based decisions. But critics claim the legislation protects discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals.
Gov. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), another 2016 hopeful, signed the act on March 26.
It immediately sparked a backlash, with the Twitter hashtag #BoycottIndiana trending. A number of businesses, other state governments and celebrities also blacklisted the Hoosier State.
Pence and state legislators were forced to backtrack, and on Thursday he signed a fix to the measure which now prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. It also bars business owners from using the law as a defense if they refuse services to protected groups.
Salesforce, Twitter and Yelp are a few of the tech industry players that joined Apple in opposing the law’s original language.

The CEO of Apple shouldn’t get involved in social issues. Steve Jobs picked the wrong successor. Apple was built on innovations — not PC number crunchers.
Carly Fiorina displays a commendable bit of rational thought and an admirable refusal to cave in to foolish and even dangerous progressive hyperventilating in her epic put-down of the hysterical drama queen Tim Cook.
Fiorina, like the rest of the GOPe uses code words and can't call the problem by its name. In this case, the homosexual agenda comes out as "identity politics".
As for Tim Cook, I try to purchase products based on their utility, not marketing. What Cook said about religious freedom laws was simply bad marketing. He alienated a large group of potential customers, just as much as if he had badmouthed socialists. His Board should tell him to leave his politics at home or seek other employment. Since that won't happen, Apple will end up losing a point or two of market share.
Don't count on that with people like Al Gore on the Apple board.
IIRC, doesn’t Apple have stores in Saudi Arabia? It always puzzled me. Plus why did Obama bow before the Saudi Royals, who gladly ordered homosexuals executed. I wouldn’t bow to the Saudi royals for a lot of reasons, yet it is okay when Obama does it...
I personally miss seeing Steve Jobs in charge. He was a liberal, but he wasn’t so rather out there throwing hissy fits for all the world to see.
Apple and Walmart had no trouble using slave labor and child labor to produce their products!

The same is true with Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. In fact, cheap products almost always equal cheap labor, because it’s a trend that plenty of businesses undertook some time ago, nowadays, it’s hard if you’re part of a discount store chain to be competitive without outsourcing cheap labor.
Hate Apple if that floats your boat, but at least try to do so based on facts rather than false rumors and crap urban legends. The false stories about Apple and "slave/child labor" have been repeatedly debunked here on FR, by people who know the facts, with real citations from real sources. You're welcome to your opinion, but trolling with unsourced, unsupported crap stories only undercuts your position. Your choice; just sayin'...

I'm a big fan of Apple products but the shenanigans of the current CEO have really left a sour taste in my mouth.

On a related note, I've always felt that Steve Jobs, like John Lennon, were deeply conservative, despite the liberals trying to claim them as role models for themselves. Bob Dylan as well.

Thank you for verifying that Steve Jobs kept Apple out of politics.
And what’s worse then Mr. Cook getting Apple involved in politics imo, is that Mr. Cook is wrong about state laws to protect religous freedom.
More specifically, in case you haven’t see the following, the 14th Amendment prohibits the states from making laws that unreasonably abridge constitutionally enumerated rights, the 1st Amendment-protected right of religous expression in this case.
14th Amendment, Section 1:All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
Note that the “privileges or immunities” term which John Bingham, the main author of Section 1, used in that section is just another way to refer to constitutionally enumerated rights, most of these well-known rights, including 1st Amendment-protected freedom of religious expression, listed in the Bill of Rights.
So before Indiana state “leaders” caved and rewrote Indiana’s religious freedom law to protect gay rights, it actually helped to prevent Indiana from violating Section 1 of the 14th Amendment. Low-information pro-gay activist states have violated Section 1, imo, by unthinkingly using equality laws as an excuse to protect constitutionally unprotected gay agenda “rights” to harrass and punish Christian business owners.
BTW, it would undoubtedly benefit Christians to get up to speed with Section 1 of the 14th Amendment.
Cook presents himself as bright, if not outright brilliant. He must think the rest of us are stupid. Well I’m not stupid. I would like to hear his genius explanation as to why it is ok for him to profit hugely in areas of the world where oppression from the dark ages is practiced openly, while a small town pizza shop owner must be destroyed to further Cook’s pathetic posing. I’m waiting poser.
