1994 Cherokee sport 254560 miles so far. Red.
Damn eviro-nazi whackos have just about ruined 4 wheeling. Roads closed. Off limits to vehicles. Gates everywhere.
Hell. 40 years ago we used to be cruising town on weekends. Get a bunch of folks together and we could be gone all day...and all night it you wanted. And never touch a paved road. Now....B.S. “They” just recently closed one of my favorite roads across the Rebecca mountains. White Gap. Beautiful and fairly challenging to cross. Get to the top of White Gap and there was a road that went back toward town across the ridge of the mountain for about 10 miles. Damn! Beautiful. Wish I had those pics where I’d go to the top during a snow. Unbelievable. I have them but not digital.
Anyway. From my house now, I can look out from my deck and see the Rebecca Mountains in the distance. Coincidentally the name of my last wife. She is beautiful, just like them. And every morning when I wake up I’m reminded of her. Just Great.
Sir is Grinning!
Love Me some Jeep!

isn’t this kewl!
I also use them as props and test beds for stock footage. Since a lot of markings and the like are gone or can be easily obscured, I’ll roll a camera.
Finding those black finish cheapos at Harbor Freight helped too. No glare and hard to see maker’s name. My good Craftsman tools can do the real work.
Every now and then I make a few bucks and can combine things I am good at. Plenty more besides these two.
.
I haven’t seen anything I would call ‘real’ on a showroom floor for longer than I can remember.
The wide ‘Rubicon’ is pretty, but it’s a joke in a tight canyon.
.
I like you.
Yea, that’s the thing about the V-8 and 4 sp tranny. Especially if you, and who didn’t, have large tires. You’d gas the engine, hit second gear and destroy the axle. Or the tranny. Or both. And the damn seals, weren’t seals. You’d drop off in a mudhole, cross a creek, whatever and next morning the driveway would be full of oil cause every dad-gum seal would be leaking.
On my last trip to the 4-Corners area I noticed many of my favorite roads had been closed. I used to get a San Juan County map at the local library and go into some very remote areas alone where the roads had not been maintained for decades. If I had broke down, I might still be there today bleaching in the sun.
Check out the anti-theft system I have for mine...
I have a green ‘07 JK. It’s great. With the top down and doors off, it’s almost like a motorcycle. You feel free. I enjoy it.
‘Big V8, literally the truck you couldnt kill, or stop’
.
So true, bought an 89 grand wagoneer for $650.00. Changed all the fluids, replaced 1 vacum line (seller said 4wheel didn’t work, $5.00 vacum line fixed it). That big 360 is bulletproof. Speedo and odometer don’t work and was stopped at 178,000 when I got it so have no idea how many actual miles. Gets me up my road when my car can’t get out of the driveway in winter and monsoon time.
“They” say that they close the roads because of the expense of maintaining them.
I say. Don’t maintain them. That’s fine with me. Why put up a gate? I have 0 problems with driving on an unmaintained road. As a matter of fact I would prefer to.
Both of my JKs have Dana 44s front and back...they are Sahara models, six speed, manual.
If ya gotta buy them, it’s well worth it.
That and if you were 6 foot tall your shins were scraping the dashboard.
My buddy has a Mooney Cadet so I have a little inside info FRiend!
In the 388,000 miles of the 422K on it that I drove, I put ONE wheel bearing on it, and had an AC hose fixed.
Besides tunes tires, oil changes, bulbs, and brakes, that was the ONLY major work I had to do on it.
My lifelong friends son is a certified jeep tech for a custom shop in south Atlanta. They are about to build a hemi v8 wrangler to see how it sells.
