When the nation's top nutrition panel released its latest dietary recommendations on Thursday, the group did something it had never done before: weigh in on whether people should be drinking coffee. What it had to say is pretty surprising.
Not only can people stop worrying about whether drinking coffee is bad for them, according to the panel, they might even want to consider drinking a bit more.
The panel cited minimal health risks associated with drinking between three and five cups per day. It also said that consuming as many as five cups of coffee each day (400 mg) is tied to several health benefits, including a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
"We saw that coffee has a lot of health benefits," said Miriam Nelson, a professor at Tufts University and one of the committees members. "Specifically when you're drinking more than a couple cups per day."
That's great news if you're already drinking between three and five cups each day, which Nelson and the rest of the panel consider a "moderate" level of consumption. But you know what? You probably aren't, because people in this country actually tend to consume a lot less than that. On average, Americans only drink about one cup of coffee per day, according to data collected by the United States Department of Agriculture. Even when Americans drank the most coffee they ever have, back in 1946, they still only drank two cups a day on average.
Interestingly enough, it isn't just people in the United States who drink less-than-moderate amounts of joe each day. No country in the world downs more than 3 cups each day per capita,

...black, no sugar or cream....

I get the no sugar part, but did they explain why no cream?
Get in here. This has your caffeine-stained fingerprints all over it. ;-)
Sounds great, but I still like to scan the WaPo front page to see what liberals are up in arms about. They’ve run a series of hit pieces on Scott Walker for the last several days, but this morning Karen Tumulty had done a full scale investigation, complete with receipt copies, of Columba Bush’s jewelry purchases.
It is a plot, yes.
There is a plan.
But much like the plan the Cylons had, it will never be revealed.
I got plots and plans in my klitchen clupboard.
Eventually all will know the power of the coffee.
[Just don’t drip any on the car paint, honest. Just don’t.]
So if for some bizarre reason, someone wanted to drink decaf, it would work?
decaf = paying a hooker to cuddle.
Notice how all the medical facts that have been shoved down our throats over the past 30+ years are slowly being disproven. Meat, eggs, butter are now all okay and even necessary for health. Now coffee is good and maybe red wine isn’t as good as they thought a few years ago. I can’t wait for that to be reversed in ten years. It’s like the movie Sleeper.
But we should surrender ourselves to communism because a few NASA scientists think that maybe a gas that has been present in the atmosphere since creation is harmful. Ignore the big fiery ball in the sky, it’s our fault and the only answer is to give up all worldly possessions and buy al gore’s carbon credits.
I don’t know, however some caffeinated coffees have greater flav. concentrations than others.
Thanks.
LOL. Coffee tastes so terrible to me, I couldn’t anyone would drink it if they weren’t addicted to it. But as for paying a hooker to cuddle:

I've tried it that way, and sorry, without some enhancement, it wouldn't appeal to me.
If you haven't tried Xylitol, you ought to get some and try it. I use it, and I can't tell any taste difference between it and sugar.
ThanksI'll try thatand that's the kind of response was looking for.... :)
At some point in human civilization, somebody thought it would be a great idea to roast coffee beans, grind them up and pour hot water over them. Hence, a billion dollar industry was born.
I guess the quart and a half I drink per day pumps up the average a bit, neh? LOL! :)
Dude. Where did you learn to brew coffee?*
*Disclosure: I was an assistant manager at an upscale specialty grocery store for several years. We got to drink the "fancy ground coffee" mistakes. OK, I'm a snob, but a decent Columbian should pass muster out of the "battery acid" range.
As I always say, coffee is health food!
You win the best post of this thread!
FAT .. was the only reason I could think of.
Of course, if your system can stand the fake stuff, I suppose it’s okay.
